Nope. Mainly because I don’t have a LinkedIn.

I’ve always suspected those are automated (i.e. faked) by LinkedIn, especially for inactive profiles just to get engagement. I got an “invite” from my dad’s profile, but he’s already retiring and he barely gets a grip of WhatsApp on his phone.

Has anyone alerted him to this? He might want to know so he can report it.

At some point you gave LinkedIn your contacts. They are very, very good at making this easy to do with “Welcome” screens on their website, and (especially) their mobile app. One tap, and LinkedIn sends requests to all of your contacts - whether they have a profile or not.

My email address is in your contacts somewhere..

I saw the “Patrick George invited you to connect” alert and was all like “I only know of one Patrick George.”

I knew it was was too good to be true lol

Has LinkedIn really gotten this spammy?

Patrick has your email address, and LinkedIn tricked him into clicking/tapping the “spam all my email contacts” button.

LinkedIn is very good at making the big button on the welcome page trigger this, while hiding the “next” option at the bottom of the page.

I think the most I ever witnessed was five. FIVE screens at first launch after a LinkedIn mobile app update before you could enter the app.

Each one had a little tiny “x” or “next” on the bottom of the screen, while the big “GO” button was in the middle of the screen. I think one of them actually said “GET STARTED”

Each of those big buttons was an attempt to get your contacts and send them all notifications.

I fell for it once, but didn’t know until I was browsing through the “people you may now” suggestions and saw “returns@Amazon.com” as someone they thought I might want to connect with.

Also saw old, stale email addresses that no longer existed as possible connections.

Oh, and I just remembered this. :)
