The original is my favorite movie. I was terrified the sequel wasn’t going to be good or, worse, ruin the original for me in some way.
It is fantasgreat. One of the rare times where I’ll actually recommend you see it in theaters.
If you like the original, go see it.
If you’ve never seen the original, watch the Final Cut version, then go see this one.
If you don’t like the original, go do something else.
Saw it last Sunday and I’m still thinking about the dang movie. Going to see it again tomorrow, but this time at an IMAX.

My take on it was this: I did not ask for a sequel to one of my favorite sci-fi films. However, what we were given, despite not having asked for it, was quite delightful.
Got waaaaay more out of Joi’s character than I anticipated when we first met her.

I just saw it last night in 3d. Definitely better than I was expecting. Ryan gosling was phenomenal. Harrison Ford was Harrison Ford. But love (Silvia hoeks) and joi (Ana de armas) were both very complex performances. I also loved barkhad abdi as the wood expert.

I had never seen the original and thought this was just another run-of-the-mill sci-fi. While not expecting much I decided I wanted to see the new movie so I rented the original last week (theatrical unfortunately, since I had no idea the final cut existed). Pretty good although it had that 80's “cheeziness” that might have thrown me off a bit.
I went to see 2049 yesterday still expecting a mindless sci-fi action flick, and wow, I was not expecting such a thought provoking thriller.

This follows the timeline of the original movie which was set in 2019 and had flying cars then.

I waited to watch the prequel shorts until after seeing the film. Poor, poor Sapper.
You should definitely check out the Final Cut when you get the chance. A completely different film.
