Kinja'd!!!

A business that 3d prints replacement remote battery covers because they always go f*%&ing missing and then you’re stuck with batteries that pop out whenever you put the remote down.

The only problem I see is that you would need a cover to either scan or use for measurements. Could reverse engineer from the hole but it would be a lot easier with the cover, which of course is lost.

I see another problem, and that’s with potential layer joining faults making it pretty much impossible for the tab to be springy and not at risk of breaking off. Would make best sense to 3d-print a metal negative with SLS and cast/injection mold covers in batches...

Shouldn’t be too hard. Each of the big TV makers only has a few models of remote at a time that can be had for $10-15 each on Amazon. An investment of a few hundred bucks will get you masters to scan for most current clicker models.

I think I have four or five of those covers laying around. Standard or rechargeable?

FWIW, it’s almost better to go get one of those Energizer recharging trees. They come with batteries and new covers

Would be surprised if those didn’t already exist for sale. I broke (read: ragequit) the battery holders on my 360 controllers and replaced them with aftermarket ones several times.

They are absolutely worth it. I got the Gen1 tree and the Gen2 sled. Both are great.

Solution: Buy Logitech programmable remote. Don’t lose the cover. Be cool as shit because you can make damn near anything work with one remote.

Way ahead of you! Working for the local library that has five publicly usable 3D printers and knowing how to use Sketchup led me to this 2 years ago for my stereo remote...still going strong!

I never started a business though...

If the whole remote is only $10-15 how much can you charge for a cover? $5-8? 3D printers aren’t cheap enough to run (yet) for it to make any money. By the time you pay for shipping, you would be losing money.
