Someone thought it was a great idea to incorporate the throttle body position sensor into the throttle body assembly. I’m sure it shaves precious seconds off of the assembly time of this engine. The problem is that if this sensor goes screwy you really have to option but spend ~$140 on a reman unit or ~$400 for a new unit. Instead of ~$10 for just a new sensor.

It’s definitely frustrating to think that another 30 seconds of engineering could have saved you hundreds of dollars down the line. I get that feeling a lot with new cars.

Yup, lots of newer vehicle that way unfortunately.

Pretty common for modern designs. Usually makes it much easier to seal and avoid moisture or dust intrusion. Some also have the option to open up the throttle body assembly and replace the sensor. I work for a company that makes a lot of those sensors.

I think it is in their favor to make it one piece as it eases original assembly.

I don’t like it.

It is riveted together so this one is not designed for me to open it and replace the sensor.

I’ve got a couple LS DBW throttle bodies laying around if you want to try to adapt a 78mm or 90mm one to your little Kia

Same throttle in the current gen 1.6L. Mine is in a Soul.

Ah, my Accent has the older G4ED Alpha II 1.6L....not sure what the throttle body is like on it TBH, I’ve never had it apart!
