So I drove the 996 all the way in to work. This is a long light so I snapped a picture.

After work I drove to my daughter’s dance class and took the below picture, which might be the cabriolet’s least attractive angle with the hardtop on. She rode home with me, she’s been a big fan of the blue car.

I’ve got 150 miles on it now. Its not perfect, but nothing immediately needs to be addressed. I love revving this car out, it’s a true joy.

Personally I think it looks good with the hardtop on

Curious: What do those 911 hardtops cost?

996s seem to be good value rn, have you checked out the IMS bearing?

The engine I put in it had an LN bearing in it. I’m going to put a new one in whenever I do the next clutch or maybe even do one of those oiling setups.

I like driving the car but a 20 mile or so commute with stop and go traffic in parts isn’t my ideal shake out to make sure everything works, kind of driving. But I think I don’t have to fear anything big at this point. Fingers crossed.

Oh don’t get me wrong, the hardtop looks good. I just don’t love that angle. I think the front/side view looks nicer, and rear.

I’ve seen two as cheap as $500-600 on Craigslist; I’ve also seen people ask as high as $2,500.

Wow. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Miata hardtop sell for anything less than $700 regardless of condition. $2500 is what I was thinking.

I think it’s just a supply/demand thing. The hardtop was actually the standard 996 Cabriolet order, and a person had to de-select it when they ordered if they didn’t want it and the savings weren’t that big so most people ordered. Then you know, 17 years go buy and engines go boom and cars go crash, and... cheap hardtops.

I know a while back I was looking at Z3s, and the hardtops for those aren’t cheap. More like $1000-1500.
