Remove the ducts and replace them with see-through tubes. It’ll be like there’s nothing even there.

Looks like you’re taking out the wall between the kitchen and living room to give an open concept...

It does do a fantastic job of muffling sound, and supposedly cuts down on racking.

What year was your house built?

Lol I was working on the plans for the renovations during that episode.

1964 I think. My last house was 1910's. The drywall makes much less of a mess and is waayyyyy easier to work with than the horsehair plaster

I helped remodel my parent house that was from around that time. And some of my grand parents. Lath & Plaster sucks.

Just be cautious if there’s is any white paper on the ducts, on the seams or completely wrapped.

Nah, go for the 40's style steel lathe. That shit makes you want to burn the building down.

what would the white paper be? I dont recall seeing any. Are you thinking asbestos?

I was doing drawings for a guy who wanted to renovate his basment. He was doing it on a tiny budget and had pipes wrapped in asbestos which had been compromised. The cost of removal was his entire budget. I dont know what he ended up doing with it, but I highly encouraged him to remove it but also designed soffits so he could seperate the pipes from the finished space.

When I reno’s my last house we were hammer (LOL) when we decided to remove the horse hair plaster and just started swinging hammers and crowbars. What a f’in mess.

Kinja'd!!!

Yep. That is what it’d look like. Or only on the registers going through the floors, I’ve seen it both ways.

As a homeowner though in the occupied residence it is not regulated. So that guy could have removed it all himself and thrown it in the trash.

As a contractor who removes it, there is tons of laws and regulations.

But with family & children I would do the same procedure at home as if I was doing it at work.

From your photos I don’t see anything suspect. But the basement is where you’ll have to check, although my parents ducts were wrapped all the way from basement to 2nd floor.

I mainly want to say something because of the little ones.

yea i’ll have to look when I get home, but I don’t think there is. When I was talking with the guy renovating his basement, he had his son walking barefoot in the basement, right under the damaged asbestos insulation. He just couldn’t grasp the cringe factor involved.

Came here to post this..... so spot on.

I don’t always love south park, but have found myself watching every new episode lately because there’s some moment in every one that makes me laugh out loud.
