The Autocheck I pulled for the 91 4Runner in Leonardo DiCabriolet’s got me to thinking. Have any of you ever come across a VIN report where it showed the odometer amount changing back and it not raising a red flag? I wonder if the age of the vehicle has something to do with it. The only other time I have seen a rollback it had a red flag for possible odometer fraud.

Edit: Not sure why Kinja decided to space these a mile a apart, but Kinja’s gonna Kinja I guess.

Kinja'd!!!

It looks like your image is a weird shape.

Also can you do an auto check on both my cars for me and email the results to e90m3oppo@gmail.com?

I just don’t really have a complete history and am wondering the background of both cars, thanks in advance.

I mentioned this in the comments on your original comment but I think it has to do with the 2 readings being 12 years apart. 12 years is plenty long enough to rollover a 5 digit odometer. In the report you can see the 30k mile readings flagged as “not included in rollback calculation”. The check didn’t account for the 4Runner having a 6 digit odometer and thus determined that the idea of 100k in 12 years wasn’t worth flagging.

I believe in 1991 they had 6 digit odometers

I’ve seen something like that before on a carfax. In that case, it looked like an oil change place entered the wrong mileage, because everything else before and after that entry made sense.

two things,

1) i actually have - a previous owner of a vehicle i own changed the cluster to km and km/h and couldn’t figure out how to change it back, so a lot of the carfax had incorrect mileage because they recorded the km. Carfax fixed it once i bought it, which was cool.

2) in many states there is no obligation to track mileage once the chassis hits 100k miles, so hard to say if it’s “fraud” after that point.

Wow that’s definitely an odd one. At least they took care of it. Yeah they will usually say ‘exempt’ on the title for us here in MS if it goes over a certain amount.

I’ve heard of that happening before. If it’s just an isolated thing it’s usually not that big of an issue.

The whole thing reminds me of the movie Used Cars.
