This will be fun! Tell me what you drive, drop a picture of your ride, and tell me about yourself. What’s done to your car? Prefer to stay stock, or to mod? Drag racing or autox? Auto or manual? Blondes or brunettes?

I’ll start. I can’t keep shit stock. I drive a 1990 Eagle Talon TSi that’s well modified. I also drive a 2004 Ford Taurus as a winter slut, and just in case my DD DSM breaks. I’m considering buying a Evolution 8 sooner rather than later.

If I don’t buy an EVO I’ll hold out and pick up a Gen 3 Viper in 2019 most likely. I’m a truck driver, home on weekends. Luckily, I have a unique living situation. After my wife and I split up for the second time, I was stuck with a massive house and garage. So my best friend moved in and split expenses with me. It’s nice to basically have a bachelor pad, and we are always wrenching on something.

I have a five year old daughter, she’s definitely getting into cars. She can identify heads, blocks, cams, turbos and everything in between. Because my living expenses are lower, it allows me a good amount of cash flow for my hobby, and I don’t take that for granted. I’m closing three years of tractor trailer driving, and hauled trailers with a pickup for an additional two years. Truck driving kind of runs in my family, and I absolutely love and hate my career.

I’m a drag racer, when I have the time that is. I love obscure European cars, DSMs, and everything in between. One of my odd car dreams is a mint EG Civic hatch to do a K series swap, ITBs and go all motor. I’ve had a few Hondas, and feel like I have unfinished business.

I’ve never really messed around with American V8s, I did own a mint 1977 Ford F100 with a 400M and some modifications. When I had it, gas was 3.80$ a gallon and unfortunately I was fresh out of high school, so it had to go. I look back and miss that truck though, it was so fun to drive for many reasons. I also had a 1995 Mustang 5.0 with some mods in high school, it taught me to drive a RWD car with some power. I definitely put it off the road a handful of times.

I have two regrets on cars I’ve sold. #1 is my 1987 BMW 325ES. It had a Dinan chip, exhaust, header, intake, and some sticky tires. The ETA cars have some awesome useable torque, and with that buttery five speed manual and LSD rear end, Tennessee back roads were the most fun a guy could ever have. It was mostly solid, save for some rocker rust. I sold it to a guy for 3500$ many years ago, and he promptly ragged it out.

#2 is the one that got away, I was a dumb kid and hate myself for it. My beloved 1990 Talon TSi AWD, I bought it when I was 15 with my own money. I held a full time job and worked the entire summer to pay for it. I went to Kokomo Indiana and paid 2500$ for it way back then. It was literally in mint condition, and I did some really nice mods to it. I remember being notorious around my town with it because I was literally outrunning everybody with it.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

It had 275,000 miles on it, I’d rebuilt the head after losing the balance shaft belt. Raced it at the DSM Shootout with 3rd gear practically gone, and managed a 13.1 at 117 miles per hour and a 1.58 60FT on shit tires and a slipping clutch. While trying to hit third I accidentally put it back into first and probably tacked 10,000 RPM with it, and it immediately started spewing oil into the timing belt. I limped it home, got scared, and sold it on the forums for 3500$. I had planned to buy a car I really wanted, but it never happened.

I cannot express the amount of regret it brought me. That’s probably why I’m so passionate about my current Talon, because it’s as clean as that car was. It’s a redemption as my friend calls it. I still look back on those days and feel so old. I’d dreamed of buying a E36 328is (funny I know because they’re basically free now) but back then they were still priced in the upper 7-8k range and it never happened. It’s funny when you look back on times like that. E36s are still amazing, but have approximately the same value as a used Acer netbook, whereas DSMs have skyrocketed.

Cars are everything to me. My main motivation is my hobby, and providing an awesome life for my little one. Without my hobby, I’d probably still have a shitty dead end job. With this being such an expensive hobby, I got off my butt and found a career and never looked back. Work hard, play hard right?

That’s my story. I drive a big rig, love writing about cars, and love connecting with other fellow enthusiasts. I’d love to hear some of your stories, and where you’ve come from and what brought you here today!

I’m from a family of mechanics, farmers, and truckers. My Dad is a one man operation used car dealer. I blame him for my odd taste in cars and my DSM kink. I’ve worked on my Chrysler K-car platform vehicles than I would like to know but shitty old caravans and lebarons kept food on the table while we lusted after Chargers and GTXs. My first car was even a K, a 1992 Dodge Spirit in powder blue. It was also my first and only automatic. I once got it up to 105 mph on a farm road. Not exploding or killing me was it’s one party trick. After that bought a 1997 Plymouth Neon DOHC crashed at a dealer auction. Fixed it in a few days, Dad gave me a 20 minute lesson on how to drive a manual car (I had learned on a 1950 Ford tractor and it’s fairly different), then he set me loose on the world. Did a lot of stalls and accidental burnouts that night. Eventually I did most of the mods a 16 year old who say The Fast and the Furious would do. Strut tower braces, bigger wheels, low profile tires, cut the muffler off and made it so I had twin chrome tips exiting in the center. Was so loud I got pulled over so I put a glasspack in it. I beat the piss out of that thing drag racing and pretending to be Petter Solberg on the back roads so when it was time for a new car a bought a 2003 Dodge Neon. Figured if I didn’t kill the first one it was a pretty durable machine. Served me well through college, cross country move, first engineering job. I even drove it to my wedding (Not like out in front of the church, just to where it was happening). Then a texting kid rear ended me so hard it bent the frame. Have a Mazda 3 now. I’ve really gotten into the JDM stuff since a trip to Japan for work. I even have a 93 Toyota pickup a friend gave me that has been useful if not as reliable as they say they are. Have a 67 Beetle hiding in a barn I bought years ago for a song and I just sold a 68 Renault Caravelle because it was more rust than car. What can I say I like weird. Not sure what to work on next but I’m looking at offroading the truck and autocrossing the Mazda.

Cars have been pretty much my life and livelyhood and my biggest connection to my Dad. We never had a project car but we did always have that tractor I learned to drive stick on. Promised him I would keep it running till at least 2050 when it’s 100 years old. He was pretty stoked about that.

Also as an aside, it is impossible to sneak in late as a teenager when your car has no muffler and your parents have 4 dogs. Thought I was so clever getting Dad to help cut the muffler off.....Yeah, well played old man.

I was suppose to keep this Si stock....but plans changed.

As it sits now: Koni Yellows, Tein S Techs, Skunk2 short shift adapter, K&N Intake, 17x7 RPF1’s.

What’s coming in the mail: Invidia N1 exhaust, Berks High Flow Cat, Megan Racing header

What’s next: Flashpro, VitTune

Future: I’m 1000000% done with the Si once this all gets sorted. Assuming I get the job I applied for (crosses fingers), I’ll be able to get something RWD and new in a few years. I say this now but looking at the list of cars I’ve owned (Integra, TL-S, EG Hatch), I’ll end up in another Honda/Acura

I’ve got my 2001 Miata that I have been autocrossing the hell out of and driving it all over the place. I think the main thing for me is to get 100% out of the car at all times. Using every bit of cargo storage, taking it to every extreme of performance, using it for all of my needs, and going everywhere I can with it. I have driven the car 70,000 miles in the last three years and have had a commute of 15 miles ROUND TRIP during that time. So nearly ALL of those miles have been for fun.

I started out saying convertibles are stupid and I will keep this thing 100% stock and get a hard top for it year round. But now I NEVER have the top up, its always a top down day, and I have been slowly modifying it as I drive it to death. Ive just done coilovers, lightweight wheels, sticky tires, front sway bar, full exhaust (header, cat, muffler), and a seat.

Kinja'd!!!

Finally got around to putting a roll bar in and a schroth 6 point harness so that I could start tracking the car. But I have some major rust problems that I FINALLY found a guy who owes my dad some favors so he is doing the whole thing (both rockers and rear quarters) for like peanuts. Total cost of $800 to do ALL of the cutting, welding, and priming. That is CHEAP for the 40+ hours of work required. Sure I could get another Miata, but that price is too good to beat!

Kinja'd!!!

Work is in progress but since he is doing it in his spare time, it will take like a month to get everything done. I am like 3 weeks into having my Miata gone so I certainly miss it! In the mean time, I picked up a Dodge Neon RT for $1000. I have had many problems with it but it is fun to work on and does actually run pretty good now.

Kinja'd!!!

The paint is trashed on the hood, roof, and trunk lid but it looks pretty good while wet. I just picked it up to have something fun with a manual that I could sell for at least what I paid for it. Just have to solve the check engine light, reconnect the power steering, and then its good to go. I should be able to get like $1200 for it without too much trouble. Yeah I spent more than $200 on maintenance but it still puts me ahead of paying for rental cars. Maybe I can get more for it. Its got 160k miles on it but the AC and paint are the only real issues I wont fix.

Kinja'd!!!

Biggest thing in my life right now is that I am moving to California at the end of the month lol. I shouldnt be messing around with rust repair and buying/fixing a car right now. But I like the challenge and the deadline is motivating me to work harder! I am driving the Miata across country and selling the Neon. I can hold onto the Neon at my parents house for a bit, but I wont be doing any more work on it after I leave. So it needs to be done beforehand anyways.

It will be an exciting new chapter in Los Angeles!

I live in a small flat in the barn behind my parent’s house with my dog. My dog is everything, then there are cars.
Behind the barn, there is the shop my dad used to have. we mostly work on our cars these days. I basically grew up in the shop, wanted to continue it until I was about 16, when my parents told me they wouldn’t let me, and I should get a job that pays better and that lets me have my own life after work.
I took their advice, studied engineering, and am currently working at an automotive supplier, as an external contractor, with no foresight and potentially unemployed when the contract runs out. Turns out I earn more, a lot more than my parents did, but I still prefer spending my time wrenching at home.
People call me shy, when I’m with friends, I’m usually the quiet one. Truth is: I don’t talk much when I have nothing to say, and most of my friends don’t share my hobbies.
I’m 30, so my friends start buying flats/houses, getting married, or parents. I don’t care for kids, I don’t want them, they are noisy, and I like calm moments. I also don’t like going to parties, concerts are ok.
I had several girlfriends, never really bonded. I guess being single for too long makes it hard to. Then again, most girls my age think about kids, maybe more luck in 10 years.
Anyway, when it comes to cars, I have my forever cars, and then there are the others. I plan on keeping my old Peugeot 505 turbo diesel and the Pajero my father and I restored over years.
The 505 was one of my first cars, and the one I’ve had for the longest time. The engine is currently out. I plan on rebuilding the engine (eats oil) and have the car painted. As soon as I find the time to.
The Pajero has had several engine/transmission configuration. the amount of time that went into this car is not justifiable in any way. It’s not worth much, but it’s worth a lot to me. This is the car I drive around with my dog. It is also prepared for longer road trips (went to Norway with it last year).
A year ago, I bought a 505 v6 sight unseen on eBay, because it was cheap. Upon getting the car, I realized why it was cheap. I’m currently working on it.
And then, there are the Chevys. About 2 years back, I started looking at classic cars, since I wanted something cool and had saved some money with no use for it. I considered an aircooled 911, but they are too common where I live, same thing for the classic mustangs. While perusing the pre-60 section on Frances equivalent to craigslist, I found a 1960 Chevrolet Bel Air, copper colored, a total rat, and fell in love. Went to check it out, it was a disaster. Ended up buying another one in Germany a few months later. It’s a turquoise on turquoise 2-door V8 with a 2-speed auto. Mostly stock. I did little to it, and drive it when the sun comes out.
I bought a second Bel Air last summer, 4-door, 6 cylinder, with a 3 speed manual, sight unseen on eBay, since that’s what I do. My father and I rebuilt the engine and the complete front suspension. It will soon be finished. Hopefully.
Since I live next to the French-German border, and there are more interesting cars in Germany, I take advantage of that situation by regularly buying sporty cars in Germany, driving them for a while, and selling them in France for what I paid, or ideally, more. Over the years, I’ve had a 306 convertible, a CRX del sol, two RX-8s (crashed one and almost died), a Megane 2 RS, 2 Audi A4s, a 208 GTI, a Megane 3 RS, and a lot of experience with car buying/selling.

TLDR: I’m a sociopath who plays with cars

I daily a 1994 Cadillac Eldorado ETC. I like to live dangerously. Also there’s something weirdly entertaining about a 300 horsepower FWD V8 coupé that is nearly 20 feet long. My other is a 2017 Ram 1500 x-cab. My wife drives it primarily.

Stock vs modded? All depends on the platform. The truck is staying stock until I can’t handle it any more. The Eldo has aftermarket wheels that I hate, and would like to get some OEMs at some time. Or maybe some Daytons. I dunno. I’m also throwing some mufflers at it.

I’ve owned 34 cars in my 34 years. Some have been stock, some lightly modified, some heavily modified. I also have weird taste; my cars have ranged from an ‘87 Cavalier to a 460 big-block-equipped Ford F250.

What do I do for a living? To put it easily, I write people out of jobs. Specifically I write applications that make my sysadmins’ jobs easier, manage software configuration and delivery, design one-offs and clickables to resolve issues in various Dev/QA/UAT/SIT/Training/Production lanes, and have built and released to production a customized ARA (Application Release Automation) tool that streamlines production software releases to 3500-someodd servers strewn all across the Us. That alone took the job that previously required 3 people to dedicate 40-60 hours per week on, to one person and ~6 hours depending on bulk. It also decreased the major incident count caused by releases by 97%.

I’ve been a ‘car guy’ since my first memory (which is of me holding some plastic teething keys, sitting in a little tykes car or something to that effect, mimicking car sounds. Given the location I was two or maybe it was my third birthday). My father taught me to drive stick at 6 years old in his Datsun 620 pickup. He also had a ‘70s Ford tow truck and a dirt-track car that, although never left the backyard, certainly helped me grow as I’d sit in ‘em and play drive all day long.

I rebuilt my first engine at 7 (with help obvs) - a lawnmower. At 14 I bought my first car, a pink 1985 Camaro. at 15 I rebuilt that shit-ass 2.8 because it threw a rod. That one was by myself. After it was done and in and functional, my brother asked pops what he wanted to do with that 305 he had bought. Pops said “Whatever you want. [Nibbles] got that V6 running so we don’t need it any more.” UGH.JPG

I will always prefer manual though I have no problem with automatics. My history is about 54/46 split, auto/manuel. The one that got away was a 1968 Nova. I had just saved up enough cash to buy it (in high school) when I found out my “friend” scooped it the day before. The one I gave up was a 1987 (bear with me) Toyota Pickup SR-5. 22R-TE, 2WD, LSD, King-cab with every available option save A/C. It had fuckin’ tweed buckets and a god damned CD player. A lady in a Mercury Marquis hit me and totaled it. I gave it up instead of holding onto it for a rebuild like I should have and, every day, I look for one hoping to find something I can grab again and relive my youth.

Yeah I planned on saving it at some other point in the future, with attempting to DIY fix it. But this should work out better honestly. Sure it wont be perfect but with heading out to the west coast, it should keep it from rusting again and be a forever car at that point. I definitely will just keep maintaining it and use it as a project. And plan to get another cleaner, more comfortable daily in California.

The Neon is a fun little project for now. Im hoping I can sell it somebody who wants to do fun stuff like autocross it. That was my original plan before it had too many problems to race it reliably. I think with just a good set of tires, this thing would be excellent for autocross.

And yup, greener pastures out there for sure (although actually browner since theres no water). But I love it out there and ive already been basically living there anyways, now its just going to be full time.

Right now I’m really into paying off my student loans so my wife and I can move to an acreage where I’ll have room to work and play. Partially due to only having a two car garage that my wife still parks in I’m into motorcycles and atv’s (I’m into them anyway, but due to space/$ that’s all I can work on currently), I currently have 4 bikes, only one not running, and a 200x three wheeler (awaiting a new timing chain).

My real passion though is pickup trucks. Lifted, lowered, American, Japanese, European, cars that try to be pickups, pickups that try to be cars, Utes, I love them all. I’m a huge fan of odd ball trucks and performance trucks such as the Little Red Express, Lightning, SS 454, Cyclone etc. But where my heart truly lies is with hot-rod pickups (I love regular hot-rods too) 30's era hot rods being my favorite, however my all time favorite truck is the ‘48 - 50' Ford, of which I own two, one that will be mildly hot-rodded, the other to eventually become a flower truck lawn ornament at my future acreage. I also love the ‘99-’04 F-150's as well.

Currently I’m an engineer for a truck accessories company (don’t want to say which one), designing mostly grille guards and front end replacements. Which I’ve been doing for three years and I love it.

Growing up I’ve always been into cars, a lot of that having to do with my dad. My entire life we’ve had dad’s first car, a ‘69 Chevelle in the grove, along with a Datsun 510, and another California ‘69 Chevelle hanging in the garage. We’ve worked on that on and off over the years working to restore it, but Dad’s priority has always been spending time with the family, taking us on vacations, fishing trips, and all sorts of various little trips. It’s been a really slow project, but I wouldn’t trade those trips for anything. Now with both kids out of the house, and me only living a few miles away we’ve been getting more done. We should have a roller this year, but we’ve slowed down again because we’re getting a few things ready around the yard so he can put up a shop.

That’s me in a nutshell, like everyone here I’m sure I could wright a book, but that’s a pretty good summary of me.

Edit: Currently drive a ‘99 F-150, which I’ve had since high school. I’ve had a few interesting cars in the past including an ‘89 Camaro, and a ‘79 Porsche 924, which I recently sold to fund my new motorcycle, an ‘06 Yamaha Warrior 1700. Other current bikes include my first bike, an ‘82 Yamaha Maxim 750, a ‘78 XS750 project bike, and a bitchin blue and orange ‘82 Honda XR200R.

Well 3 of the 4 cars I’ve owned have been Fords so I guess I’m a Ford guy. 2001 Focus ZX3, 1998 BMW 318i (E46), 2014 Fiesta ST, 2017 Mustang Ecoboost.

I got the ZX3 because I was frustrated with the E30 325ix that I was “generously” gifted. I was 17 and didn’t have the money, time or resources to fix the 325ix. I bought Oswald for $1400 and it ran for as long as I needed it to.

Kinja'd!!!

Then I joined the Air Force and moved to Germany where I bought my 318i which was terrible and had cooling issues and was an auto. I kept it for 3 months before I was just fucking done.

Next car was the Fiesta ST which was a joy to own. I bought it at 19 without test driving or even seeing it in person. I had it shipped from the US to Germany and it was a long wait. I drove the hell out of that car and loved every minute of it. When I brought it back to the US, the engine blew. Replaced under warranty and then I kept it for a but, at the track it was acting up and I decided to get rid of it soon after. I still miss it.

Now I have the Mustang. It’s pretty fuckin’ great, I know it’s not a V8 but it doesn’t have to be. I’ll keep this for awhile and then it’ll be on to the next thing. A Viper.

The best way to explain myself would be to say I’m very shy in person. Cars are my passion and have been since i can remember. It started with hotwheels and drawing cars, now it’s stepped up to actual cars and thanks to spending lots of time as a kid drawing them I can make actual art. I still live with my parent but I’m working on changing that, plus I’m 19 so that’s an excuse for now. I’ve been on oppo for 3 years, none of my friends care much about cars so I use this as an outlet plus oppos just a nice place. Ive never been a purist about cars, I’m not that guy claiming OEM or nothing.

As far as cars go my project for the past couple years has been a 1992 Lexus sc400 there are a couple long stories involving that car that I’ve put on oppo. It’s basically my second car after owning an auto 95 Civic sedan which taught me momentum driving.

1992 sc400 mod list, Megan coilovers, ls400 4 pot front calipers, seam welded passenger compartment, cd009 from an 04 350z(6 speed), Collins Adapter set, excessive clutch pedal, celica clutch m/c, +4engineering alternator bracket(removes all of the accessories on the motor besides the alternator), battle version rack spacers, halfassed gasket matching on the intake plenums(done with a metal file), custom front knuckles, integra seats, hand made wider front fenders(read:wavy panels with pounds of bondo), sideskirts, and soon a 3.2 rear end instead if a 3.9. It’s also been stripped with very little interior, no sound deadening and lots of little bits missing. Last time I weighed it it was 3400lbs it was fully loaded when new so it was originally around 3600-3700. The weight now should be around 3300 after the Integra seats and the removed HVAC.

As far as other cars I’ve gone through quite a few sub $1000 cars that I daily when the SC inevitably breaks, such as right now I’m driving a Mazda 323 while the SC waits for its third diff. Cars on that list include:97 Mercedes c230, 01 Elantra, 90 Volvo 740, 05 spectra

My cars always been in ratty condition so there are no good shots of it. This is the best I’ve got right now.

Cars are currently a 2016 Dodge Challenger with just over 32,000 miles and a 1984 Lincoln Town Car with just over 100,000, both stock, which is typically how I prefer it. Can certainly appreciate modded cars, but just not my personal thing. I’m hopefully selling the Lincoln on Saturday, but we’ll see.

I guess my only real regret involving cars is maybe back in high school, when I bought a Volvo 940 Turbo instead of a Volvo 240. The 940 seemed like better car at first, but in retrospect, the 240 would have been much easier and more affordable to keep on the road.

Oh, and maybe I would have held onto my 2013 Mustang for a little while longer and enjoyed some time without car payments, but, at the time, I didn’t have a company car and was doing 2,500+ miles a month for work and wanted to trade it in before it crossed over 75k and dropped further in value. As it happened, 6 months later, I changed jobs and the new company provided a car, so the weekly mileage on my personal car has fallen considerably.

Frankly, I’ve always admired people that find that “one car” they really like enough to keep driving for years and years or decades, but I just seem to get bored after awhile and want to move on to something else. The only car I really liked enough and would have loved to have kept was a 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood I had in college and for a few years after, but I wasn’t in a position to keep more than one car at the time, and it just wasn’t reliable enough to use for work, so it had to go. Otherwise, I might still have that one.

Outside of cars, I tend to enjoy travel, maritime history, architecture, politics, wine, and music. I volunteer with a local youth sailing organization, and am currently struggling to teach myself banjo (not going so well). Currently saving for a house, the main attraction there being that I can finally get a dog.

I’ve had cars I’ve loved. Cars I liked. And cars I just got along with. These days, though, I’ve graduated to this

And after a couple reprograms, it’s everything I’d want it to be. Honestly, it’s fuckin great. I’m excited about a car for the first time in years. Go ahead. I can take it.

Actually the i3 makes perfect sense, especially the REX models. I like it! Haven’t driven one yet, would love to get your take on it.

It was one of the reasons I bought this one in particular. I figured that if the car is trash, I still have some spare parts and that sweet aero kit.
It was and is pretty rare

Mine’s a 2014 rex, which I’ve done the reprogramming to manually switch on, and allow that last half gallon of gas to get used. But on a typical day, I don’t use more than 25/30% of the charge. It’s pretty effortless to live with— super quick through traffic, great visibility, a hell of a lot cooler (temp) than my E60, in the Texas sun, and just presses all of my car designer buttons. I love seeing the carbon chassis when the doors are open. If I could lower it a little bit, and stiffen up the roll, I think it’d feel a little better. But the seats don’t have any bolster, so I’m not like going carving with it.

I’d never buy one new, but just off lease with 20k miles, for less than a new Civic? Easy decision for me.
