OK, this is seriously cool.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I must admit, the Jaguar E-Type’s styling has never actually done much for me - the proportions just seem off to me. But this conversion? This is cool.

The TL;DW: 40 kWh battery shaped like the original engine, 220 kW electric motor, single-speed gearbox, using the stock engine mounts for a Jaguar XK6 engine. So, there’s a lot of old Jaguars that this can go in. And, before someone jokes about British electrics... Rimac did the electric bits.

“Rimac did the electric bits”.

Oh, that’s SO much better!

But in all seriousness, a classic car retromod module of motor, electronics and battery which fits in the original engine’s envelope and looks vaguely reminiscent of the original is the greatest idea ever. How long till someone does an SBC one?

As much as I like the old analog combustion engines, I must agree that this is very cool. Just wish the interior was kept a bit closer to stock (it’s just too modern).

When I found out about this a couple weeks ago my dad and I had a rare bonding moment when we ranted together about ruining an old car.

Oh, and they designed the conversion so that it was 100% reversible.

Ok that just made me feel a lot better about it. Did not know that. Whew.

I think SBC would be tricky, if only because the shape is rather iconic, and would be more awkward to package as a battery.

Also, a lot of SBCs are in cars that, well, I’d want to focus on battery packaging efficiency, to get more battery in there, rather than replicating the design.

If you made a battery pack and controller the size and shape of an SBC, and a direct drive motor the size of a TH350...

The look of an XK isn’t exactly anonymous to Jag fans, either. You’re never going to get an identical replacement: it just needs to look close enough to pay tribute to what it replaces, and fit well enough to be an easy install.

How many classic cars (SBC engined or otherwise) actually do trips long enough that battery range actually matters? I’d have thought that for most people, comfortable capacity for a 40 miles or so cruise with a few burnouts would be plenty.
