The year is 1968, your eighteen years old, live in Norway and you want a car. Problem is, you can’t afford one. So what do you then? You make your own car of course!
A rear engined, composite bodied car with gullwing doors. It might sound like an Italian exotic, but this car was designed and developted by a Norwegian eighteen year old and bulit over a period of four years from 1968 to 1972
.
The young mr. Stranden first started sketching out ideas, which developted into a wedge shape resembling Bertone designs of the period such as the Lamborghini Espada and Miura.
The young hobby-engineer would base his sports car on the VW Type 1 platform (Beetle to you and me) to ease the type approval process. It would also make it possible to modify it using Porsche 356 parts.
He molded the glass fiber body in his neighbours decrepit old barn, where he fell trough the floor three times during the process...
With aftermarket bucket seats of the period being rather austere, the young Stranden decided to develop his own after some extensive studying of anatomy books. Note the speakers around the headrest...
And so after four years and three months, he had his very own sports car.
