Kinja'd!!!

2004 V70, 112k miles... looks really clean! Good idea or bad idea?

The Mrs. is planning to step down to a part time roll to make more time for the family and her sanity, and that means giving up her company RAV4. That’s okay because I hate that thing...

How well do rear-facing car seats fit in these things? Keep in mind both of us are tall.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Also, I hate it when people don’t give a phone number in CL ads... I feel like I’ve never gotten a single response from the email-only listings, so I’m not too optimistic here.

If you can do your own work/maintenance, they’re great cars. I only say that because taking them anywhere results in the Euro tax, not because they’re difficult cars. Comfy, durable, it’s not an XC, so no angle gear/AWD to worry about. That said, the only thing that ever went wrong on my XC was a CV joint.

I’d rock that wagon.

I can and do. I’m purposely avoiding the XC for the sake of simplicity/reliability. I’ve only owned one Swedish car (a ragged-out 1995 Saab 900SE) but I loved everything about it, so it stands to reason that I’d probably like a Volvo. I caught the wife looking at VW Passat wagons this morning. I don’t want another VW, so I proposed this Volvo, and she liked it!

I occasionally see a T5 or a 5 speed version of the V70 on the local CL.... I’m always very tempted.

My wife and I are on the tall side (she says I’m 6'2", but I tend to think I’m an inch taller), and we used a V50 as our kid hauler when our first kid was in a rear facing seat. It was a bit cramped in the little wagon, but the larger V70 should be much roomier.

Is it a NA engine? Also I noticed that it has an aftermarket partition in back (there is pullout netting right behind the rear seat headrests), so the smell of someone else’s dog(s) may linger.

Otherwise, what Huzer said.

Pretty sure that’s the platinum edition judging by the silver racks and side molding. If it checks out, I would drive the hell out of that thing. Low miles, looks clean and the timing belt is done. I would check the date that it was done since it’s a mileage OR age thing.

To get responses on the no number ads, I always include my phone number and a general location so they know I am at least interested enough to allow them to call me.

Not sure on rear facing seats in a P2 Volvo, but in a P80 (generation before this one) it fit fine with two adults in the front.

EDIT: It’s the Titanium Edition and a turbo.

V70 2.5T Titanium Edition

Volvo’s V70 premium wagon has long been the car for families and individuals who want unequaled functionality, comfort, longevity, drivability, and safety in a vehicle. The unique exterior style of the V70 2.5T Titanium Edition is sure to turn heads. Aside from its distinctive Titanium Grey color, silver roof rails and side/bumper moldings make the car sleek and athletic. In addition, folding power retractable side mirrors allow the car to fit into tighter spaces at the touch of a button and a rear spoiler adds a final touch to the exterior styling. Inside, sport seats with leather seating surfaces create a warm and functional interior, while bi-xenon headlights and speed-sensitive steering offer an unparalleled way to drive. The V70 2.5T Titanium Edition has a suggested retail price of just $37,310. Only 500 will be built.

Awesome, my XC was one of the vehicles I have owned the longest. When I first bought it, I had a few bushings to replace in the front end, but other than that, it was a really solid car. I kept it about 2.5 years before selling it to my wife’s aunt.

We have dogs, too, so I kind of like the dog partition. Good point about the smell, though. If I ever get an email back, I’ll give it a thorough sniffing!

Edit: I don’t know if it’s a T5 or NA. I hope T5, but I’d be fine with NA.

I keep looking, hoping one will pop up. My wife might be clueless and apathetic when it comes to cars, but she CAN drive manual. Her first 2 cars were a 5-speed ‘99 Corolla and a 5-speed ‘04 TDI Jetta. Now that she’s gotten used to an auto, it might be a hard sell to get her back to a manual, though.

Yeah, my wife shocked me by wanting a Passat in manual, which I gladly helped her find, but she hasn’t wanted once since.

That looks like a reasonable price on a very good car. There is plenty of room in the back seat for rear-facing kid seats. How tall is “tall?” I’m 5'11" and we had rear-facing kid seats in my E46 wagon and it was... OK. I still have that car but now also have an XC70 and there’s another 4" of space in the Volvo with my seat right where I want it.

6'7" for me, and 5'10" for the Mrs. I even have to bump the passenger seat forward to where my knees are touching the dash for the kiddo seat in my Suburban... Not a problem for wifey, though, and she never drives when we’re together.
