Kinja'd!!!

Overheard in a conversation at my school. Aside from the obvious RWD v FWD and what not, is this true or is he confusing them for the Camry/Avalon platform and the ES? Also aren’t they all unibody?

You heard idiots. Although knowing Toyota, they might share the same cruise control switch.

I’ve heard the Corolla/IS thing before though, I am certain it is because the greenhouse profile is so similar, especially with the upkick near the C-pillar (character!).

Yeah he’s thinking of the ES/Camry. Als the CT/Prius. But none of Lexus’ RWD cars share a platform with a Toyota.

Except that you know they are Toyotas in other markets

Well, it’s the same frame in the sense that neither one has one?

Automotive literacy is all relative so I try not to judge too hard. But still, bleh.

I want a Lexus hot hatchback based on the Corolla iM. 2.0T from the NX and a manual and LSD. Lexus design language would look good on that car I swear...

I watched a guy ask the dealer rep if the Honda version of the new Acura NSX was faster... I couldn’t believe what I had heard for a second, then I looked at the guy again and could just the stupid emanating from his clothes.

Is the absence of a frame a frame in itself? We need to figure out a context in which to frame this discussion.

It’s too bad we can’t have RWD entry level Toyotas anymore. I mean yeah there’s the 86 but I want a sports sedan.

That’s just, ew. Unless the Honda version is VTEC sans hybrid and then maybe we have a deal.

Automotive literacy is all relative but having a strong opinion on something you know nothing about is always plain, simple ignorance.

Let me guess, this was one kid trying to tell another that his Corolla is ‘basically a Lexus.’ Oops, strong opinion on something I know nothing about but I’ve heard lines like that way too often.

ES = Avalon
GS = Crown
NX = RAV4
RX = Highlander
GX = Land Cruiser Prado
LX = Land Cruiser
CT = Avensis/Scion tC (similar to Corolla but independent rear end)

IS, LS & LC don’t share with any Toyotas.

The RC is a frankenstein of current-gen GS front, previous-gen IS convertible middle, and current-gen IS rear, so it’s 1/3 shared with the Crown.

The ES actually a variant of the Avalon, closer in dimenions, though still on the Toyota K platform with the Camry/Highlander/Sienna, etc

So basically you want a CT 200t.

(The CT 200h is basically just a Lexus Auris. And the Corolla iM is an American-market Auris.)

The ES used to be a variant of the Camry back in the late 90s, but i think it is more Avalon now.

Lexus should have put the 300h powertrain from the NX and ES hybrids (and IS hybrid in Europe) into the CT. You now have a psuedo hot hatch that gets more than 40mpg and can be driven as a city car. They also could have put the 2.0t in the car as well. They didn’t have to discontinue the CT, they could have just updated it the interior and put better motors in. They killed that car because the Prius can be had with more power and better options, so it didn’t have a purpose. If they actually cared about sports models, they would have turned the CT into a hot hatch.

I’m sure some FWD/RWD Toyotas share subframe/suspension mounts, as noted in a Hoonigan video about the Formula D Toyota iM, where the RWD conversion is entirely based off factory mounting points.
