Dealer replies with:

“So, are you paying cash or financing?”

“did you know paddle shifters are practically the same as a manual? What is your monthly budget?”

You’re not the only one. However, which is worse, when a dealer lists an auto as a manual or a manual as an auto?

It frustrates me enough that I pretty much do it every time I see one that’s wrong. Seems like most of them would want their listing correct and would change it...

Definitely the latter - I’d never see it!!

Sometimes I think they do it because they want to call it a manual due to it having paddle shifters or even the +&- off to the side on the PRNDL

That’s what I figured, I some how came across that car and was befuddled. I was hoping it was going to stay on the market until I got a job and then I could get it cheap.

Interestingly enough, the ad for my M-Sport didn’t specify the transmission and I came across it by happenstance. I think that might have helped me, because people, like me, who wanted a manual 3 series probably didn’t see it in their search results.

If it’s a dealership, it’s often done accidentally. When they get a car in on trade/auction, the guy making the ad often only has a VIN number to go off of.

The VIN gives you the make/model, but not the transmission. Automatic transmissions are generally optional extras, and are not specific to certain trim levels. Therefore, the system automatically inputs whatever the standard transmission option was (most likely a manual).

Unless the online sales department takes the initiative to confirm the transmission in person once the car arrives on the lot, it will often remain mislabeled on their ad.

Kinja'd!!!

Hate dealers who do this, it has manual mode so it is basically a manual...No, no it isn’t go sit in the corner and face the wall.

Oh, it’s not emails. I’ve just been viewing/test driving a few cars as of late and a few of the dealers have greeted me with those exact words.
