Worst. Tactical. Vehicle. Ever. I like the fastback, though.

This is the only acceptable application for angry eye headlight design.

I want to know what the guy was thinking who decided to put such a tiny ass steering wheel in them. I’m so glad I never had to drive any of the older ones that didn’t have power steering.

Was it ever truly designed to be a tactical vehicle? Was the Jeep considered a tactical vehicle?

On the other hand there is something totally psychotic about a vehicle filled with trained killers that smiles like the damned Google panda-pod car thing

Depends on what you consider tactical. Although I think it’s safe to say it’s primary purpose, when being designed, was to be a work horse.

I don’t know much about the development of it. But if I had to guess. I’d bet the number one reason we switched to it from the Jeep was because of computers and electronics, thus needing to tow generators all over the damn place. (Because that’s 75% of what Humvees are used for.)

I’ve ridden in a few. It’s the epitome of huge vehicle, tiny interior. Also, who thought “hmm, the 6.5 Diesel is barely adequate in a light duty pickup... Let’s put it in a war zone!” Then there’s the little thing where they’re really good at killing their occupants in the event of a roadside bomb or land mine.

It replaced the M151 Jeep, which was scary over 35mph. My old Guard unit had a few when I was there (90-93) and those were replaced by Hummers that came back from Desert Storm. We never towed anything with ours.
