Hood’s eye view of part of California’s scenic highway 74, headed west. I was surprised to see so much traffic headed east, very few cars were going my way (which was great). The funny thing about the video is it looks like a relaxing drive, but inside the car just maintaining the speed limit meant I had a lot of constant work to do with the pedals and gears.

This is Ortega Highway down in Orange County right? I have taken this road a few times. Most recently in the C7 Corvette I had rented. Also have taken a rental FRS and my girlfriend’s ‘05 Honda civic through there. Very fun road, and just relaxing enough to not scare my girlfriend to death. Nice views too once you crest the mountain and look over Lake Elsinore.

I have very seldom had light enough traffic in either direction though to really run through it spiritedly. It seems to be a common route for people to travel, so it gets crowded. Nice job pulling over for faster people! That is a rare sight indeed.

That’s the one. I was kind of surprised, in certain spots the eastbound traffic was at a standstill, but my whole trip westbound I only encountered about three other cars.

I was going to make a whole video, but the camera didn’t record sound for some reason (or it’s not playing back), so I figured I’d just show a clip from the downhill side.

I think there must be a good number of people who work on one side and live on the other. It would be a nightmare trying to go all the way around that on the 15 or 5 respectively. And then the motorcycles and corvettes on the weekend. I’ll be sure to head there in my Miata though once I move out there for good. My girlfriend and I love making trips down to San Diego and I always rope her into taking that route even if it adds like an hour of driving.

Yeah I actually took it as a shortcut to get to Irvine without having to take I-10 all the way into LA (which would have been a nightmare I’m sure).

One of my favorite roads in my neck of the woods. Dangerous for bikes, but fish and chips at the beach makes it worth while!
