My bush trimmer is TKO. All the gas lines are rotten, the carb is all gummed up, the primer bulb is dry rot. I dont want to throw it away but I don’t need it or want to fix it. The only reason I kept it was because it’s named Excalibur and I like to yell that out and rev bomb while I use it. Does oppo think a local high school would want it for a small engine repair class kinda thing? Do they even do that in schools these days? Any other suggestions? Maybe i should rebuild it..

Definitely easy just not really needed and I have other tools that get the job done. If I put the 35 bucks into it to get it running again it’ll still stab me in the back the one time a year I need it. Used to have a lot more landscaping but we moved to a smaller yard/bigger house combo. Im on the fence about rebuilding it.

True. My biggest problem with it right now is that the two stroke gas leaked out all over it so the whole thing is sticky. So the simple fact that it needs to be wiped down is what is even stopping me from looking at it right now if that gives you some insight into my enthusiasm.

Some high schools to still teach small engines, and they might want it. Pull up your local high school’s web site and look for their Industrial Tech/Industrial Arts/Applied Tech/Applied Arts/Tech Ed program (yeah, we have a lot of names) and drop them an email.

that’s why my trimmer is electric,
my mower, is gas and is used every other week. My chainsaw and my bushcutter get ethanol free gas and I store them with Trufuel

I’m pretty good about care and maintenance but this one got tucked away 4 years ago during a move and was never put away correctly. Totally my fault but with the chaos of the move i just said screw it. It’ll need a new carb I’m pretty sure of it. They are only like 15-20 bucks. I second your true fuel. After 10 years and regular pump gas mix, my Stihl trimmer needed a new carb, that ethanol tears stuff up. So yeah, now it’s all true fuel for the trimmer. The snowblower still gets pump gas mostly but I use it frequently enough in the winter and run it dry for storage, so it’s doing decent for now.

I run that in my trimmer 24/7. I go through about 2 to 3 bottles a season. It just isn’t worth it to buy another gas can and hen mix gas etc. My hedge trimmer and blower are electric and my mower is 4 stroke.

might go that route too, once i go trough my oil i got with my sthil. one down 6 to go(bought a 6 pack to get free extended warranty)then bought a new chainsaw that came with one too.

Gotcha. Why store with fuel in it? I used to run my trimmer dry for the first few years I owned it, then I would use the blower in the light snow, so I kept it with fuel in it, but now, I try to empty it at seasons end, and as little as I use it, I just use the true fuel now.

I have a Ryobi string trimmer in the same state. It was left sitting for 2 years by a tennant. My electric one gets the job done, so I haven’t even bothered with it, but I don’t want to throw it away either.

Go to YouTube and look for some videos by a guy called ‘Mustie1'. He picks up all sorts of dead power equipment like this and gets it running again, making entertaining videos in the process. He does this out of his garage, making it seem relatively simple and fun, giving the impression that almost anyone could get a dead piece of power equipment running again.
That being said, I’d rather be in front of the ol’ iPad watching his videos than actually getting my hands dirty trying to revive on of those devices...

Just this year I rebuilt my generator (phone tried to correct that to genital!) And my weed trimmer. I’m sure for 15 bucks it would run fine but I have no real use for it. Keep meaning to list it as a free pickup so I’m guessing since I never do its my conscience stopping me and telling me to rebuild it.

I’m that way with electronics projects. I’ve got tons of stuff around here that I could fix, some I’ve even ordered the parts for, but I don’t really have a need to do it. When I was in CAP I used to do a four-on-four aerial combat simulation using old notebooks, and as a result I’ve got piles of ancient computers around here that I no longer need . But I might go back and run this class again someday, so I can’t part with them.
And don’t get me started on vintage audio gear. Piles of the stuff, but I use one receiver most of the time and don’t really need the other stuff. I don’t want to go through the hassle of selling it and I hate dealing with free offers (people become such greedy, inconsiderate dolts when there isn’t a price attached). I know exactly what you’re going through...
