That’s a secret :)

(more seriously I got this one through auction... got very lucky as it wasn’t listed as a GT-R and I think even the seller had no idea what he had)

I’ve seen that front end somewhere before. It looks... familia... ;)

Can you confirm this for me (from Wikipedia):

“Both the GTX and GTR models were limited to a top speed of 180kph. However, removing a screw on the back of the instrument cluster, labeled 180kph, meant that the speed limiter was removed.”

Kinja'd!!! "Flavien Vidal" (flyingfrenchy)
10/10/2017 at 05:52, STARS: 1

Considering that this car already has had the ABS removed, I’m fairly sure the top speed is currently delimited too. I’ll see if I can “check it” though :)

180kph in the mountains might be tough but well... doable :D

Yes, the part where I’m not in the US ;)
In France, you can import a newer car if you take it to UTAC to have it tested, but the homologation process is long, expensive, and complicated.
If the car is 30+ years old, you just send a mail with all info and pictures of the car to the FFVA, they send you back a letter saying yep, it’s an oldtimer, and you can register it without doing the homologation.

They are! It’s the 323 headlight shape. They are recessed.

I love these cars! How is the gearbox? I know they are fairly weak. Let me know when this goes up for sale.

Kinja'd!!! "Flavien Vidal" (flyingfrenchy)
10/10/2017 at 07:53, STARS: 1

GT-X gearbox are weak... GT-R ones were beefed up accordingly. It will be on sale... well pretty much now lol... I just don’t have pictures of it yet. An american friend in my town might end up buying it though. I hope he does... That way I can steal it from him in exchange of my RX7 from time to time haha

haha you’re still onto that thing??? Just get over it and buy it already lol! And swap a freaking manual into it! Please, make it a manual.

Kinja'd!!! "Rustholes-Are-Weight-Reduction" (rustholes-are-weight-reduction)
10/10/2017 at 08:24, STARS: 0

Yeah but making it street legal would be a major pain in the ass.
But I would at least try to make it a manual. I guess the transmission from the regular V6 should bolt on, hopefully

18 mois et 3-4000 euros pour le passage complet en réception à titre isolé... Ça vaut le coup.

Kinja'd!!! "nerd_racing" (nerd189)
10/10/2017 at 08:36, STARS: 0

GTR Transmissions are still fairly weak. Even the GTaE with the similar box but with cryo treated and shot peened gears are still pretty weak when you turn up the boost.

Kinja'd!!! "Flavien Vidal" (flyingfrenchy)
10/10/2017 at 08:46, STARS: 1

Nah, I know a couple owners of those and transmissions are perfectly fine. Main problem being owners of those cars these days who find some sort of amusement revving them to 5000rpm before dumping the clutch with the engine making 400hp instead of 210 lol...

Driven hard as it should, but properly, also as it should, those gearboxes last forever...

A friend of mine who owned both a GT-X and a GT-R did have minor synchro problems with the GT-X though.... but that’S about it.

Interesting that they would actually mask the light instead of just letting it sit behind the edge of the hood.

I am now really intrigued to know how a screw in the back of the cluster could trigger a speed limiter.

In my head it just stops the speedo needle at 180kph and nothing else.

Question... what would be a fun, possible track car imported for around $5k?

Edit: or a cool 4x4?

Kinja'd!!! "Flavien Vidal" (flyingfrenchy)
10/10/2017 at 11:32, STARS: 0

I have an Honda City Cr-i currently that would be an awesome track car for 5k$ landed... Otherwise, maybe a cheap Cappuccino?

You’d still have to import the car though... That’s an extra 5 to 700$

I’ve been a long standing member of the 323 and protege forums and I can confirm they don’t like clutch dumps at all, but I’ve also seen them die due to case flex on non-clutch dumps. But that’s just my experience. I’ve also seen a Holset HX35 BP+T on a GTX trans last a long time too (in my 4wd protege).

They are molded to that shape and recessed. It’s hard to see at this angle, but it isn’t square. Here’s a pic:

Yup these are the good ones. Nice find. I prefer the Pulsar GTIR myself because it has a more “special” engine but I wonder if these are stouter? GTIR is notoriously fragile in some ways.

But it seems to me that putting them on production cars started in the midi eighties

But if you zoom in, aren’t I seeing a strip of not-quite-the-same-as-factory-color pain across the top of the headlights?

Ah, sorry, I see...the lighting makes it look like green across the tops and looks like eyelids to me rather than black plastic from them being recessed, you’re right!

Kinja'd!!! "nerd_racing" (nerd189)
10/10/2017 at 15:38, STARS: 1

It is paint, it’s factory satin black paint that helps with light bleed. You were partially right. My diesel 323 had it removed partially and that side had less brightness.
