There’s some people even today that say that the 600 series was the pinnacle of the ThinkPad line...

I can see why! Very versatile, solid machine.

I have a few old busted ones lying around that I should do something with. Two T61s and an R52. I could maybe cobble the T61s together into a working unit.

I think one of the T61s has a bad mobo and the other a busted trackpad. Should be workable. The R52 far as I can tell has a bad thermal switch.

grab a palmrest for $10ish on ebay, just make sure it is the right one cause there were widescreen and 4:3 T61 models

and finding a T61 mobo shouldn’t be expensive, again make sure it’s the right size... pretty easy swap

Always liked the Think Pads. And with W3D and Doom! I’ll take it!

IBM Thinkpads...before Lenovo started deinnovating them into subpar Macbook Pro rivals

That’s an interesting text-mode font.

I noticed older laptops have fonts like that

did you hear about the retro thinkpad?

I think I’ll just Frankenstein them together. My brother is old enough this year to have his own laptop so that’ll make a good Christmas gift.

I’ve got a win7 install disk so I’ll just order a cheapo ssd on Amazon and call it a day.

Just because it’s a 7 row with a rubberized palmpad doesn’t make up for the last gen processor, subpar screen, and the complete lack of options. 3 years for this? hell no.

I’m sure the peak was a T-series before Lenovo was designing them. Probably a T43p with the IPS panel and highest-end processor, or possibly a T6# (can’t recall who designed this - IBM or Lenovo). These things were about the peak mix of thin, light, and tough that laptops ever reached.

Wow, this takes me back. I may have to go rummage around in my attic and see if I still have any of my old ThinkPads. I know I had several T21's and T23's, a T42p and a T61. I think the T61 was actually still functional too. It just got put aside when I got a newer HP (the shiny turd). But the T42p was by far my favorite laptop. It just ended up developing the issue with the video card where the graphics chip came partiality de-soldered so it only worked if you put firm pressure on the palm rest.

But overall IBM ThinkPads were awesome. I genuinely miss the days of rugged, function over form, electronics. Now everything is all metal and glass and everyone ends up afraid of scratching their pretty shiny laptop.
