What color/s should I paint my wheels? I’ve been meaning to get around and refinish the wheels I picked up for my Mini over a year ago and finally got some time to do it. The wheels are a two piece design but weren’t really meant to be taken apart, so I’ll probably paint them as a one piece. Anyways, let me know what colors you think would look good and any renders would be great as well, thanks!

Since you’ve got that grayscale thing going, black with polished lip? Or if you really want one color to make it pop, red lip? I would say body color if your Mini was white or something with more color. But a lot of wheels are already pretty close to your Mini’s dark silver...

Anthracite center with the outer lip polished

The dark sliver does make it rather difficult, hence why Im asking for opinions, haha. Im not a huge fan of black wheels just because they tend to blend with the tire and make it look like there’s a lot of empty space.

I adore bronze wheels but I’m not sure how they would look on the dark silver.

Also, what are you using for mud flaps and how are they mounted? I want to put a set on the rear of mine for winter duty.

This was what I was initially thinking, but Im worried that the color might blend with that of the car

Not black, black wheels are awful. Dark grey ftw.

I think the polished outer lip will nicely set the wheel off without losing it in the car like a black wheel on a black car.

I just got some really cheap plastic rally armor ones and used self tapping screws to go in the wheel liners. They don’t really work the greatest and one of the rears got half torn off somehow which looks properly awful.

White wheels would become brown within minutes where I live.

Yea. I think too much color on only the wheels would look out of place unless you had other things to match like handles, mirrors, or headlight bezels.

Bronze on dark silver aint bad. This was on my “thundercloud” 4runner though which has a bit of gold flake in the paint.

To be fair, I’m open to painting all of those to match as well. I just made them black when I got the car because it was the easiest and most logical.

I wish, I have the most boring color for a Mini and had to get a greyscale Union Jack

The other problem is that finding the right shade of bronze is rather difficult. I tried bronze wheels on my MR2 and they came out a litle too dark for my liking.

Yeah I only really like lighter bronze wheels. I vote anthracite for your wheels though if you dont want to venture into the bronze world again!

Gunmetal metallic. Or titanium. I did the gunmetal on my dark grey metallic S4 and it looked great. I went with the obsidian black pearl for my S8 that’s also dark gray metallic. I don’t like the black as much, I’m going to go with titanium after i switch to my winter wheels, but the gunmetal was really nice.

Aren’t those three pieces? Or are they the faux-three piece wheels that are made to look like you can remove the center?

Don’t.

They are a two piece, you can take the little allen bolts out to seperate the outer edge from the center. But, they break easily, replacements aren’t readily available and there aren’t any reliable torque specs for putting them back on.

Refinishing them in the stock silver is also a possibility if I don’t find a color scheme that matches well

The silver, gray & black works really well together. I really can’t think of anything that would be an improvement.

It really does work pretty well. I don’t particularly like all the black accents, especially around the headlights and grille but they’re better than chrome. I might end up trying a gold center with a polished lip just to see but going back to silver is a distinct possibility.
