Saw this Volkswagen with Arizona dealer plates driving around Los Angeles today. I thought it might be a non-US Golf Sportsvan but the taillights seem a bit different. Then I thought maybe it’s a Sharan but don’t those have sliding rear doors? Anyone know what this is?

It seems to be a Touran Cross.

Want to say Routan but it’s too small

It’s a slightly restyled one of these.

Looks like a test mule. The body is off a 2nd facelift Touran (Golf based small van, like a Mazda 5), yeah they kept making that thing with only minor changes for ages, which was produced from 2010 - 2015. They finally put it onto the new platform, so this is just an old shell to diguise something else.

Yeah I was thinking either routan with fender flares

Also, this thing had a huge bulge on the passenger side that I couldn’t get a photo of. Initial thought was maybe the car was an electric and this was where you plug it in. But then I saw tailpipes.

Not sure what’s up with the dealer plates, but it definitely looks like a drivetrain mule. check out the unfinished exhausts, odd fender flares, and tape on it.

Routan isn’t even a VW, it’s a Chrysler. This old model Touran is a main reason why VW didn’t ‘need’ a great Tiguan as much. The Touran is an mpv; tall like a crossover but more practical and without the fake pretence of ruggedness.

I was thinking test mule as well. Wonder what they’re working on.

Given the extreme offset which they tried to hide under those flares it could be anything. Isn’t Porsche working on a sub-Macan crossover?

VW should sell it up here. And also the Amarok.

It’s a mule of the next-gen Skoda Kodiak RS. VW and Porsche might sell a few as well even though their stars are waning.

Audi will probably make an electric version using AC motors. SEAT will probably go old school with a supercharged V8 (but it won’t be sold in Spain...only Catalonia)
