My save got out of sync when I lost internet while playing and it wouldn’t sync back up, so I just started a new game. I don’t know why I didn’t think to select something other than the hot hatch race, but I did and I’m starting with an F1. It’s the exact opposite of a what a racing game starter car should be.

Aaaaand another Forza Motorsport title I won’t buy. Thanks for saving me 60 bucks. Too bad Forza 4 will most likely not be made backwards compatible.

I appreciate the option to pick it. No one is forcing you to and it’s a great option for ‘veterans’ of the series to jump right in.

Don’t pass on it so quickly. That’s simply an odd option, not the default.

I’m really on the fence about FM7. Some say it’s garabage while others praise it. The overall car selection is tempting.

GT6 forced you to start with a CVT 1.5L Fit/Jazz. Disgusting.

Again, the exact opposite. It’s not that hard of a thing to get right. GT2: you get some cash, there are heaps of interesting cars to pick, Micra SuperTurbo, Silvia, TT Supra. Everyone wins.

I’m of two minds.

In a sim, I usually just want to grab something interesting and go lapping with it - Assetto Corsa and Project CARS, for instance, don’t lock out any cars based on progression, you can just make a custom race with anything you want.

However, if you’re going to do a progression model... yeah, don’t just hand people that tier of car. Nauraushaun laments the GT6 starter CVT-equipped Fit, but that’s actually not a bad starter... if you’ve got other options, too. Maybe have an option to buy something cheaper that’s used, but performs better - with some sort of reliability model with wear on a car, and maybe single-make championships available to the new car, to reward buying the new car.

The new 1 million credits for VIPs opens some doors for getting some cool cars right off the bat.

You aren’t going to buy a game simply because they give you the option to buy whatever car you want? The only reason he was able to buy an F1 over one of the starter hatchbacks was because VIP members get a 1 million credit bonus to start with for being VIPs.

I always thought a cool idea for a racing game storyline would be to start in a race car in the beginning and work your way backwards to a shitbox that has to go up against better cars.

I must have missed this option, as I started in an Abarth 695...

I do like the game though, mostly because I can actually play it (I’ve never owned an Xbox). The one thing that drives me made is the automatically upgraded cars and the specific car classes. If I want to take my rotary powered Isetta racing against traditional sports cars, I should be allowed to!

Wrong.

They give you your first car free, one of the first championships available is “(Re?)birth of the SuperCar” for which you can pick a McLaren F1. This is true for anyone, I’m not a VIP and I picked the F1 as well.
