Turns out 2wd Ford Ranger wheels & tires are the same size as the police package setup for this chassis.
All total the setup cost me $150, tires are decent and will last until i decide on a final setup. They did need some painting.
Swapping the wheels, i did make an unpleasant discovery.
Apparently despite extended studs and 3/4" of spacers the wheels still didn’t clear the front dust caps. So they just left them off. I now need to get replacements and repack at least the outer bearings. I also need to get the right lug nuts to hold the hubcaps(they are only temporarily on for the pics), and decide if i am cutting or replacing the extended front studs as the hubcaps don’t fit over them.

Just an idea. Space those rears out about 1.5"-2". They look a little too tucked in.

No. Quality, hub centric bolt on spacers won’t be any harder on the axles than running a wheel with shallow backspacing.

Eventually some sort of spacer will make it on. Keeping it super low buck for now until I’m sure I’m keeping the car longer term (got it for $500 so a bad trans or other issue cropping up as i drive it will likely end the project).

To that point, I suggest you replace the throttle valve bushing... It’s a little plastic piece that retains the throttle valve cable on the throttle body. It gets brittle, fails, and the transmission goes to zero line pressure and kills itself. It’s a $1.97 piece of plastic that can murder your dreams.

Thanks! Looked this up and a failed/failing one has the symptoms the wagon had started showing.
It seems like there is more than one size and i can’t, after a quick googling, tell which fits the wagon. Do you know of a place that can tell me?

I’ve never heard of there being different sizes. They’re universal a across anything Ford stuffed an AOD into. Lots of Mustang parts suppliers have them. Of course they say nothing of the models aside from Mustang that they fit, because Mustang is the only car Ford ever made...
