I took the opportunity today to work on some of the smaller things on the racecar: putting most of the trim back on, painting the wiper arms and reinstalling them, polished up the lights and put them back on, touched up some paint on the trim and installed some hood pins.

This will let me ditch the original latch and cable mechanism, which will shave a couple of pounds off the car (and at the front, too!). I originally installed the plates with the metal screws that came in the kit, but in the end I decided they seemed like something that would loosen up after a couple of weekends. Some small rivets made me feel better. The original latch is still sitting on the inner bumper. I’ll remove it and the cable tomorrow. Drilling holes through a new hood with fresh paint felt a bit unnatural.

Is this an older Integra? If so... we just became blood brothers! Love these cars

Yes, its an 88. It has been in my family since new, and eventually became my first car. I actually remember riding in the car as a five year old. After many years of autocrossing with my Dad and I, I starting building it into a SCCA improved touring road racing car my senior year of high school. After being mothballed for a long time I’ve decided to resurrect it and play racecar again.

You’re the real MVP! Amazing story, cool history of the car in your family. I imagine that car handles like a dream.

I suggest figuring out how to save the safety catch on the hood. I’ve seen too many guys with folded hoods and busted windshields cause they forgot to put pins back in. Nothing wrecks a weekend faster, seems like cheap insurance to me......

I’ve seen that, too. I’ll probably have some small vinyl made up to say “Hood Pins?”to put on the gauge cluster.
