so in getting my plow truck ready for winter (yes it has already snowed some here) found a surprising lack of platinum on all 8 plugs. it seemed to run ok before, but maybe my standards for a 20 year old chevy 350 weren’t too high. sorry for the fuzzy pic, but there is no platinum above the level of the insulator.

Colorado mountains. going to be near 70 tomorrow and then the bottom drops out of the thermometer tomorrow night with rain/snow

No surprise. Many platinum plugs are designed with a flush center electrode.

oh yeah, one of those Bosch +2 things.
Get NGK Laser Platinum or Iridium instead. If NGK doesn’t offer them for your car, get the G-Power.
NGK also makes a good wire set with a pretty blue color and numbered wires :o)

When the first generation of Bosch platinums came out I had cold weather plug failures on a Honda which I installed a Mallory high output ignition and coil on. It was from being so cold and the powerful system generating instant heat in near 0ºf temps. It had been fine all summer but when super freezing the end wire and part of the porcelain got blasted off the plugs. Changed to a standard Bosch Silver plug back then and it was fine. Had two plugs fracture and the pieces must have gone out through the exhaust..
