I’d like to see someone use a piston-type air compressor as a supercharger on...

well..

anything.

Imagine one of these:

Modified to fit in the V of one of these:

Then the blower would actually have more cylinders than the car...

On another note I did see a blue Morgan 3-wheeler in Matthews the other day.

How much displacement is that?

I’m ashamed I have not thought of this until now. Brilliant!

You’d have to store some air produced into a tank and released like nos, as I don’t think the CFM of the compressor would be high enough to make a noticeable difference?

Kind of like when mighty car mods used leaf blowers as makeshift ‘turbo’s’

Nobody does this because piston compressors are designed to produce higher pressures at lower flow. The compressors used in turbos and superchargers are designed to produce higher airflow at lower pressure. To match this with a piston compressor, you’d need a ridiculous amount of displacement or it would need to run at many times the RPM of the engine, which generates heat that must be dissipated.

Trust me, engineers are better at science than you.

There actually was an old engine that had 3 cylinders, the outer two did the intake and compression and the middle did the power and exhaust. Effectively, that’s almost what you would end up being like. Either that, or the double dorito diesel.
