I decided to see how my new-to-me iPhone 6s Plus takes pictures. I was overall pleased, but it will take a bit of getting used to, as does the phone in general.
Unlike my previous phones, the camera seems to function more like an actual, well, camera, and focuses on one area in particular as opposed to just a generally decent photo.

iPhone takes great photos for amateurs like me. It’s all about lighting. You have to keep the light at your back. Mess with exposure settings if you have shadows like trees to see if you can get the object a bit brighter. There is also this thing called the rule of thirds, its 1/3 background, 1/3 subject, 1/3 foreground, I think. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_thirds

Welcome aboard! I have an IPhone 6S Plus as well. You can take some excellent photos but the lighting is everything, in making the photos look right. Also incredible video for a phone.

Thanks. I had a 5c before this, just wanted something with more storage (got a 128GB). I can tell the camera is better already, since in the areas where the photos are focused properly they’re absolutely brilliant. Will work on it over the next week or two.

When the camera is open press the object on the screen where you want it to focus. To lock the focus and exposure press and hold the object and a little box saying AE/AF lock, then you can slide your finger up and down to adjust the exposure.
