I always lol’ed at those people who were like “this is my house forever” and actually foresaw the day that they’d pay off the mortgage. Who stays in one place that long? Who likes one house that long? But then I met my current gf and realized I was the weird one. Cheers to 30 years of servitude!

My wife and I have been in our house for 15 years. That’s half the original mortgage, though we did refinance a few years ago. I doubt very seriously we will ever move. The house is small for 5, but my oldest son is a freshman in HS and will (hopefully) be going to college in 4 years. Then his brothers will (hopefully) move out and the house will be perfect for my wife and me. We both have stable jobs, and I don’t see us going anywhere.

Isn’t the process a blast... And it was a huge help that as an accountant I was sorta familiar with all the necessary paper work, etc. but still a chore and a half.

Well we live in a great area, and our jobs (shes a nurse, I am an accountant) are as stable as they can be. Although I would like to say that we will be there till the end, things happen, lives change etc. But the house is well situated, and will only be worth more over time.

Well, we plan on cutting it down, double payments and such. Doubt we will find our selves in a position that a refi would even be worth while. But we shall see!

Saw your post about it being weird to stay so long. Our plan is at least 18 more years in current house so the kids stay in the same school district all the way through high school. Great school district, low crime, lots of kids in the neighborhood.

Congrats! We’re currently in our “until our son graduates high school”, which is 10 years away, house and will revisit our 30 year plan after that. My main pay off goal for a house is to have it paid off by retirement.
What are interest rates now? We were able to get 3.25 a couple of years ago on a 30yr VA loan.

Yea, the garage faces away from the street too! No one can peak in with out passing “the compound”s inner wall.
We don’t have a time line for when we would look else where. 95% of my (large) family lives within 15min, and that isnt going to change. So at best, we live here long enough to make the last mortgage payment, at worst it was an investment, and we will still win.
It needs some TLC, but when its done it’ll be worth it,

4.125% on a 203K rehab loan, not going to get much lower than that, and 203Ks demand a fraction more than a standard mortgage, plus more paperwork.

Nah, I got hobbies and an agenda to worry about, the house and such, just facilitate my/our passions. Plus when you’re dealing with a fixer upper, you get to have it you way, all the details are yours. It makes it extra special, Like modifying a car, only the house doesn’t go anywhere.

Nope. I’m not one who craves change. And I’ve got my music and aviation writing to keep me busy. We also remodeled our kitchen a year ago, and we’ve got lots of other remodeling plans for the future. We are in a great neighborhood, everything is close. We like it here. And moving absolutely sucks.
