Pads are easy, just remember to disengage the parking brake once the car is up on jackstands. Rotors are also easy, just make sure to clean them with some brake cleaner before installing them.

Yes sir. Just doing rotors up front. I’m in AZ so they shouldn’t be too rusty.

The brake cleaner is typically to get rid of the oil on the rotor before installation. At least with our rotors, they’re coated with a layer of oil to prevent premature oxidation. Not sure about yours, but I’d clean them anyway.

Good luck! You shouldn’t need it though, brake jobs are super easy as I’m sure you know. Just feels super sketchy to be taking apart the brakes.

Keep in mind new cars require a tool to reset the parking brake on rear discs. I had to buy one for my mini but I didn’t know ahead of time. looks like this:

Thread lock the bolts when putting them back in. I’ve had one back out before. Brother in law has also. Ihad to go buy a new bolt set. See also sideways tire as last resort safety measure. That 7" may save my life.

Don’t forget the anti-squeak stuff. There should be some with the pads, along with instructions on how to use it.

If you ignore it, your brakes will squeak for all eternity, until they are replaced by somebody that does not ignore the anti-squeak stuff.

Let us know how those Duralast Max pads do. I have bad opinions about Autozone, but I’ve never tried their “premium” stuff like that.

Oh yeah oops. I knew that. I’ve watched the Chris Fix brake video 8 times now and can almost recite it line by line.

I found the grease but I also have copper anti seize. I haven’t read the instructions that came with them. Should probably go do that right now.

Yeah I’ve done lots of other stuff (perks of buying a 10 year old car) and figured this is as good of a chance to learn as any.

They had a 20% off coupon online orders so I decided to splurge for about the same money. Front rotors were a little warped. No idea what the PO had on there so figured this couldn’t hit. I will report back.

I’m doing the front disks and pads on the wife’s 2011 Elantra this long weekend. It’s thanksgiving Monday here in Canada. I even took tomorrow off.

So I got 4 days to finish my ceramic in my 2ns bathroom, do grout, install glassshower walls, install toilet ne hook everything up to water. Gonna try to do the brakes and if I have time close and winterize my spa.

Take a look at your new rotors, and if there is a threaded hole go find a bolt that fits. This is there to push the rotors off. Get brake cleaner, and don’t forget to grease the back of the pads and the pins

Kinja'd!!!

No luck needed, in general fronts are easier to do.

For rotors; any hunk of steel in the right shape will be alright. Although the coating will stop the “hub” and edges from rusting.

Nope. Buy at least name brand rotors. Wagner or Centric.

I bought cheap rotors and they warped in a month.

When you pull off the slides from the old pads, make sure to get that pocket super clean. When you reassemble, the pads should slide in and out without binding. If they don’t, you probably need to clean up the slide slots a bit better. A file works well for this, as does a cutoff wheel if you have a steady hand, but the file is the safer bet. And doe yourself a favor and clean the bolt threads of any old thread locker before you go to reinstall. You will save yourself a world of headaches and possible cross threading. If you don’t have a wire wheel for a drill, then run out and get one. Works great for cleaning the slide slots and the threads. It takes a bit more time, but you’ll thank yourself later. Also a good 4-6" c clamp or a big set of channel locks will ease the caliper pistons up front back into the bores.

That sounds like a pretty busy weekend. This is all I have on the agenda. If I finish I will feel pretty accomplished.

I thought I would report back. I used this thing and it sucked. It was hard to hold everything and turn. I got it done eventually though.

Yeah. I feel like there has to be a Honda specific tool that I was too lazy to find.
