It’s been a long time coming, I’m currently running an i5 2300, AMD 6870 and 8GB of ram with a spinny-drive of 500GB.

I’m keeping the processor, since it’s still decently fast enough, which is amazing at 5 years old. I’ll be adding an Nvidia GTX 1050 TI, a Samsung Evo 250GB SSD and another 2x4GB of DDR3 ram!

The 6870 finally has become too old, it was meeting my needs up until very recently when I realized Forza Horizon 3 or Forza 7 require Direct X 12 capable cards and that many of the very newest games are just a bit too demanding of my hardware. A friend of mine has really been wanting me to play Battlegrounds, so I’ll give that a go once everything is upgraded.

Oppo, what say you? I can’t decide between FH3 or F7, or should I be thinking of a completely different game? The huge variety of cars, the upgrade-ability really appeal to me. FH3 I think currently is what I’m leaning towards since I like the idea of the open world.

Horizon 3 since it will be cheaper at this point and FM7 isn’t going anywhere.

Have you picked out what you are building yet? Sharing my build list from pcpartpicker. I love this system! It really screams. I have no need for 3d or VR or 4K, so the 1060 card is more than enough to keep up with my games and this thing will scoot along for years to come. No more hard drives! M.2 all the things!

I’m mostly just upgrading an existing system. I’m pretty well set on the GTX 1050TI, I’ve been looking at used 1060's, but even then they are quite a bit more than a 1050TI, since I plan on 1080P gaming and don’t really need to play at the highest quality levels, I think i’ll be okay.

As for the M.2 drive, I hadn’t even considered that! Also am not sure if my 5 year old mobo would support it, I figure I’m playing it safe with an SSD.

I too have a Silverstone case, one of their HTPC models, I’m very happy with it.

A 5yo mobo will definitely not support an m.2 - that needs a special slot in the mobo. Make sure the motherboard chipset has enough lanes to push all the data around. That’s why I went with the Z- series mobo over the H- I was originally looking at.

I’ve got a Z68 chipset on my motherboard, so should be okay there.

I did! And it’s fantastic, I rebooted my computer yesterday in less than 30 seconds. Wow.
