Here is the ATC audio with animation showing AF66 approach, landing and taxi at Goose Bay after the front fell off of their engine. The headline was their request after tower tells them that the safety crew was picking up parts of the cowling off of the runway. For clarification, subtitles in blue are other aircraft, yellow is tower and green is AF66. Apparently Super is the designation for the A380 since Heavy is just not quite enough. It took me to the end of the video to figure out that it was “AF66 Super, mayday”, and not a “super mayday”.

I just hope it was towed outside the environment

Well, it was going to be towed outside of the environment, but then the front fell off.

I feel like in a situation where a Super Mayday would be appropriate you would be too boned to tell anyone about it.

Wouldn’t be too bad in Goose Bay weatherwise this time of year, actually stays pretty mild until November in that part of Labrador.

Not just a regular mayday, but a super mayday.

I was impressed by how terribly normal and relaxed that all sounded. Like engined disintegrate every day.

That is the end result of thousands of hours of training and experience. When everything goes south it’s all muscle memory. I’m curious what the initial reaction & response to the engine coming apart were. From the pilots reaction, asking for a visual inspection for leaks after clearing the runway, I suspect he may not have realized just how badly damaged the engine was.
