Fully agree. The mk2 CX is a timeless design, the mk1 shows it’s age a bit better due to all the chrome, but I still like both of them.

Because headlights had to be fixed in a certain place. The same legislation banned steering lights. The CX’s lights would have been illegal anyway because not sealed beams.

The other reason is that adjustable suspension was evil, foreign and quite possibly Communist.
