Used car lots and pre purchase inspection

So all of Tom’s articles talk about getting a pre purchase inspection, and were trying to get a truck, so I figure yeah, let’s follow some good advice. Found a nicely priced, very high mileage truck on car gurus, so I call a local garage near the lot. They’re completely game, as in “yeah, of course. 90 bucks, 45 minutes, when you want to come in”. Call the dealership and get “ you can get it inspected after you buy it.”. So, I’m bailing on thattruck. Right move? 200,000 miles RAM, for what it’s worth.

Yeah that’s a major red flag.

Yes, only reason to refuse an inspection is they know or at least strongly suspect there’s a problem.

Yeah, bail. If they won’t let somebody knowledgeable look at a truck for 45 min they are hiding something. Few people buy a house without a prepurchase inspection because most people don’t know the in and outs of proper floor joist spacing. Same for a vehicle, few people look at the tie rod ends and realize they are completely perished.

Very right move. If any seller (dealer or private party) refuses an inspection, RUN away.

Shave a few 0's off that milage and I’d still bail.

Bailing is a smart move.

Bail, run, escape! And review those bastards on Yelp, Google, etc. to warn people who are not as knowledgeable as you about the need for pre-purchase inspections.

Good idea for Yelp, etc. Got to know which of these places really do suck

“ you can get it inspected after you buy it.”

That’s as classic as the “you can test drive it after you buy it” line.
