None of these are anything special, they’re just fooling around close to home. Hopefully I’ll have time and weather soon to find some subjects that are made more interesting by the wide angle. I have a bridge, and a couple other spots in mind.

The toughest thing for me to learn with a wide angle is that you should always get closer. And when you think the subject is too close, get closer still.

Any reason behind choosing the Sigma 10-20 over the Nikon 10-20mm?

I think my first lens outside of the kit lens will be a 10-20mm. They’re great for getting a much better view of the night sky when I get a chance to do some star pictures.

Wide is fun, I like barrel distortion though. I’ve carried my 12-24 around for 10 years now..

Like benjrblant said; you got to get right up in it’s grille to get the best effect;

Yeah I was under a foot away from my cat, hence the look he was giving.

Price, and ability to find one used. From everything I’ve read, the Sigma is on par with the Nikon 10-24, and I got this one for $300. The only Nikon I could find used was $500, and about 5 hours away. New they’re around $1100, the Sigma is $500ish I think.

Not the Nikon 10-24, the 10-20 which is supposed to be optically superior, lighter, and adds VR over the older 10-24. Sells presently for $307.

Okay I had no idea that one existed, I only ever saw the 10-24 or the 12-24 come up, I might have bought that one if I knew about it. Although the Sigma I got is f3.5 which was also a draw, I like shooting in low light fairly often.
