Yesterday I woke up with a pain in my left leg and I have no idea what caused it. It’s pretty sharp, just below the knee, and feels like I’ve been punched in that spot. There’s no bruising or any other marks, so it’s probably not a bug bite. Walking is painful, but not impossible. I hope it’s nothing serious, but I guess I’ll head over to the doctor next Monday if it persists...

I feel you dude. Back of my thighs are extremely tight, hurts to walk honestly. Combination of no sleep, eating poorly, and work sending me into NYC with calls on 51st and 7th, then down to 18 and 8th, and then back to 38th street to get home in a day just walking is brutal.

It’s not even 11:30, and I’m up at least an hour past my bedtime. This getting old thing is really not going to work out....

See if it’s getting better every day. If it’s no better by Wednesday or Thursday, go in. Don’t wait out the weekend, and you don’t want to go in to a doc-in-the-box or ER on the weekend if you can avoid it.

Where exactly? Front or back? Left or right?

If it’s in the front, right there on that muscle, it’s probably a cramp. Yes, these things don’t always just go away. Try alternating ice and a hot pad. If you don’t have a hot pad, throw some rice into a sock and microwave it for 30 seconds, instant hot pad. Also, bananas.

I might go with tendon or ligament, but if that were an issue, you’d probably know exactly what you did to injure it. Unless you do a lot of repetitive motion, then you could have something akin to tennis elbow in your knee. It’s like an arrow to the knee. Then we need to find a way to stretch the connecting tissue.

Left, inside (not front or back but on the side), just below the knee. I’ve had cramps in my lower legs before, but this doesn’t feel like a cramp. I was fine when I went to sleep on Saturday but woke up in pain Sunday morning. I did a fair amount of walking Saturday but felt no discomfort, particularly since all that walking was no more strenuous than my usual workout (which I didn’t have a chance to do last week due to a diverticulitis attack). It’s getting to the point where putting weight on the leg is painful.

Gotta stretch your hammys bro. Lay down on your back, put one leg flat on the ground take a belt and put it around the other foot and pull that leg as vertical as you can. Hold for a reasonable amount of time. Repeat on the other side.

Well, in that area, I have two theories. Lateral collateral ligament is angry, or the meniscus is angry. Could be a stretch, a tear, or inflammation.

Do you see any swelling? Is it red? Is the pain just there, or does it go away if you put the knee up? Does it hurt more to press on the area? I’m trying to think that this isn’t some osteoarthritis, since it’s so sudden onset. It sounds like inflammation to me. Take some ibuprofin, it’s an anti-inflammatory. Ice the knee. Try to stay off it if you can.

I’m not a medical professional, but my brother is a doctor and runs ultramarathons, so we’ve dealt with a lot of knee injuries. Trying to pull on my experience.
