Kinja'd!!!

These can be imported in LHD and with an RB30e. I irrationally want one instead of doing the sensible thing and getting an FJ80. Though it would probably be cheaper to import a clean Y60 than to pay the land cruiser tax.

Did I mention the RB30 Y60's were ONLY available in manual?

Also, 2-door, if that’s your thing:

I love that you can get them in a seriously dinky 95 inch wheelbase.

The one you linked to looks so much more fun than a tank-like FJ80

The Pajero is OK. Would rather the Patrol and RB over the 4G or 7G in the Mitsubishi. Plus, I haven’t had great luck with Mistubishi.

I like the patrol a lot but you could get a 2.5gen montero with a locker and leather and goodies for way cheaper than importing something and other than the motor its simply a beast. The RB is way nicer than the mitsu v6 though so thats a definite plus and getting a stick would be another selling point.

I’m anxiously waiting for the Y61 Patrol to be 25 years old. It has what is essentially a 4.8L DOHC RB engine. TB48: 250hp NA in 1997.

Plus, I hear they like boost a lot:

Thats the gen of Patrol that always caught my interest. Sad because they have become pretty affordable overseas but we still have to wait (And when they are import ready I bet there will be a price jump in japan). That motor sounds like a ton of fun too.

Technically, the model you’ve linked to is not a Y60 - it’s one of the last of the 3rd generation Patrol from the 1980's known as 160 series or more familiarly, MQ. We had one when I was a teenager. Exactly what you posted but yellow, without the bling and a full Japanese vinyl interior. The rectangular headlight version was known colloquially as the MK Patrol and ours had the L28 engine (it also came with the P40 and the diesel SD33). It was driven to death @ 320,000 km and then replaced by an FJ80.

It wasn’t worth fixing. Driver side B pillar was ‘heavily oxidised’, the new radiator support panel was held in rivets and the engine converted oil to great clouds of smoke until it was warmed up.

Y60's were mostly slightly widened 3rd gen MQ’s with the body arches filled in and an updated driveline.

Would I own an MQ or MK again? No. Mostly because they’ve all rusted away. But there’s still quite a few Y60's GQ models still going round...and anyway I’ve just been promised a Y61 cab chassis with an intercooled 4.2 L TDi and a tipper tray...

That’s what I get for trusting Google Image search results.

A Y61 cab chassis with a tipper tray sounds neat. Maybe I could convince my significant other that it’s practical/useful and not just a toy. A Y61 is what I would/will hold out for most likely. 5 more years...

Still want a Y61 with the TB48DE.
