Assignments at work have been taking me to the oil fields a bit lately. The engines there are quiet soothing to listen to, punctuated by the occasional gunshot-like backfire.

Mynoise.net has some really nice noise generators! But, related to your post (vaguely), they now have a really nice one for a car interior on a rainy day! You have to be a subscriber though, which costs just $5 for a lifetime - pretty good deal with all the nice other generators they have as well, I thought! I use it at when I am working at home.
