Because they are the best batteries the original owner’s money could buy.

I think the one in the M3 is original to the car.

I think I need a new one for the M3, I’m not looking forward to that expense. I’m also going to need brakes and tires soon. Not looking forward to these expensive repairs, I need a better paying job.

Why? I replaced mine with a non-bmw brand and coded it (pretty easy if you have mhd on your phone or you can use inpa tools on laptop). Just make sure if you have agm, then replace with agm, don’t switch around. Mine cost the same as any normal car

Think of it as cheaply added stealth downforce.

One thing I have been researching too since this is the first time replacing one on a BMW.....

I assume I am going to have to register it since the yellow battery light of doom is still on, yes? It had an AGM and I swapped it with an AGM, albeit bigger than the size (had a 94, went with an H8 since that was recommend) that was in there.

I swapped AGM for AGM. The one in was a 94 and I replaced it with an H8. How hard is it to code it? Also, I noticed the H8 has an outlet on both sides but the car only has a tube for the positive side of the battery. Should I get something for the negative side?

The joys of M ownership. I would love one but I would be broke and crying at this point I am sure.

Yeah about that. I’m just happy it’s paid for.

Yeah, I know. I was hoping to get away with just pads, but I’m going to have to change them all. Luckily, the front brakes have a lot of meat left on them. They got changed right before I got the car, at only 15k miles! The rears are original to the car, and still have a little bit of meat left.

Not too bad! A good friend works at BMW NA headquarters. Trying to get him to post here, but he just reads every so often.

I have an app on my phone that lets me register batteries for my X1. Picked up a 850 CCA AGM battery at Advanced Auto Parts for $175with a coupon. Easy peasy.

An app you say? What’s it called? And that’s where I ended up getting mine. Had an online coupon so ended up being $165. The difficult part was just getting the damned thing out. Space is limited in the trunk and keeping all the wiring from getting in the way made it more difficult than it should have been.

The app is called Carly for BMW. It has programming and code reading functionality as well. I think it costs around $50, but is well wirth it. I first bought it when I had my 335d, as it let me code out my EGR error when I installed my EGR block (don’t tell the EPA).

Awesome. Gonna check into it then. Anything to avoid going to the dealer or a shop sounds great. Thanks for the info!

It’s a solid app. They have great CS as well. I had an issue a few years ago and they emailed me back the same day with a solution.

No idea - I’ve had the same battery in my E46 since I got it in 2013, and it says “BMW” on the top. It’s never been an issue amazingly.
