Thoughts on the Nissan Titan?

Kinja'd!!!

I’m heading out to look at a 2006 Titan tomorrow. It’s a base V8, 4x4 extended cab. It does have the Pro4 wheels and brand new tires though (big plus). Mileage is listed as 125k and it looks like new.

It’s not much larger than my crusty 95 F150 and that turned me on a bit. Lloyd didn’t ”mark” the wheels either so I’m guessing he likes it too.

Outside of the transmission is there anything I should be concerned about?

They seem pretty solid and they tow really well.

Similar question was asked couple months ago. They sound ok but have some issues. Engine and trans sound solid but everything else falls apart

“Anything I should be worried about?”

Well for one thing you must have mistakenly written Titan, and mistaken copied a photo of a Titan, when you meant to say Tundra.

If I could fit a Tundra in the budget I’d be on it. They just hold their value too damn well.

I once found a 2nd gen single cab short bed Tundra SR5 (5.7, 4X4) for sale for 9 grand. Looked ridiculous. In hindsight, I should have mulled it over.

$9k is reasonable! I don’t need an extended cab. It helps with the Dog on long drives though.

The Suzuki-badged version tends to be a bit cheaper, just in case you weren’t aware of its existence.

I was not aware. I’m betting the chance of finding one in the Dubuque area is pretty slim.

Pretty sure the Suzuki Equator is a Nissan Frontier not a titan

Sounds amazing, look good, good size, and cheap compared to tundras. Rear ends and trans are weak points but not all that bad

Suzuki sells, or sold, a “V8, 4x4, extended cab” truck?

worse gas mileage tan equivalent trucks. Like 12/15 instead of 14/19

Mileage has never been a concern. I don’t think it should even be an issue if you’re looking at full size trucks.

I’ve had two Titans (‘08 and more recently a ‘04), primarily for towing a 24 Hours of LeMons race car.

Pros: Fun to drive (for a truck). Very quick off the line. Towing capability is great. I’ve always liked how these things look. Never encountered any trans or diff issues even with towing.

Cons: Gas mileage is bad. Exhaust is loud and droning. Interior trim pieces started randomly falling off the ’04 (had 175k miles). Clamshell doors jiggle around a lot over bumps. Brake booster sensor went bad (common problem) which completely f’d up the brakes. Had to replace the whole booster.

Preferred the ’07+ Tundra but used prices are still too stupid. I’d still be driving the ‘04 had a drugged out girl not crashed into me.

Thank you!

This will be one of my largest purchases since the divorce. It’s keeping me awake. I can handle rattles I DD a 95 F-150. The drivetrain is my main concern. Price is now an issue. This is at a reputable dealer but they also advertise “100% GUARANTEED APPROVAL!!”

A big turn off.
