Kinja'd!!!

Nothing like old, cheap tech. The seller accepted my $200 offer, and it should be here on Friday. Unfortunately I start a new schedule this week and will be working more conventional hours instead of the 0300-1200 like I have been for the last few months, so being there when it’s delivered is not likely. Depending on the carrier I’ll see if I can get it dropped at a remote location, like a local market, so I can pick it up at a reasonable time.

Now to find a video card. It looks like the best option for price, speed and compatibility is the GTX 1050 Ti. There was one on Craigslist for almost a week, but when I contacted the owner on Thursday morning, the day before payday, he said it sold that morning. Damn! He was asking $100 and that seemed like quite a fair price, but now it looks like I’ll have to spend a bit more. Sure, there are a ton of reasonable video cards out there, but I want something affordable with decent Macintosh compatibility, and the 1050 Ti seemed to hit the sweet spot. Time for a little more research...

Rotating section 8 next door, new neighbors I haven’t met across the street, and nobody lives in the house directly across from me and haven’t for the 5+ years I’ve lived here (but they do keep a nicely manicured garden). It looks like it will be shipped via Fed Ex, and I think I can have it dropped at the local Walgreen’s for pickup, so that should work just fine. I’ll call tomorrow to verify.

I use one of those every day at Job2. It’s the curse of the IT guy at small companies, you alway get the hand me down computers that you’ve scrounged up for yourself.

I wish I did know the neighbors a bit better, but the neighborhood doesn’t seem to lend itself to that, at least not in its current state. Once I purchase a place for myself, hopefully in a little better neighborhood, this won’t be an issue any longer. But at least the carriers are recognizing that we can’t always be home to receive stuff and have made reasonable accommodations for us to receive things at local stores, and for that I’m grateful (when it works...)
