I would think the other red flag would be the price right? A speed6 with less than 100k for under 8 grand? I always thought these things fetched decent money.

Nope. Their values have plummeted since launch. Mazda did zero advertising when new and it took many years before the used car market even knew they existed. When I owned mine, I tried hard to avoid looking up values because it was so depressing.
