I picked up the new Moto G5S Plus yesterday, $50 off at Best Buy. It’s in most ways a lateral move from the HTC One M8, except my M8 is on its last legs. I have it all setup with my apps and accounts, everything seems to work really well. I really like it a lot. And I can’t use it.
I can’t use it because they had no cases that fit it, and I am That Guy that won’t carry a phone without armor on it. The edges are slim and slippery, especially when you’re used to holding a chunky, textured silicon rubber case. Also, it turns out the G5S Plus is dimensionally larger than the G5 Plus, so the jillions of cases for the previous generation are of no help.
I prefer something with a holster / clip like the Otterbox Defender, but so far all I see are standalone cases by makers I’ve never heard of. Help!

have you tried eBay?
just get a plain black one to fit, have you tried phone shops?
are there any little stalls in shopping malls selling phone cases / screen protectors?

Thats where I went for a case for my latest phone. Ebay has become the source for all our phone stuff like cables. Bought a slim impact case and two other heavy duty ones all 3 for under $30 total shipped. The phone stores act like cases are gold. I think I paid $50 for the first Otter Box on an iPhone many years ago before I realized that I could have bought 4-5 other good cases from eBay for the same amount.

I can’t help you with a holster case, but here are some suggestions.
Cimo makes good cheap TPU cases. I had a matte smoke one on my Moto X Pure and my wife has a crystal clear one on her gold Moto G5 Plus. I tried one for my Samsung Galaxy S7 edge but it didn’t fit so good. There’s a matte smoke Cimo for the G5S Plus , and it comes in a couple other colors.
Spigen makes several different kinds of fancier cases. I have a Neo Hybrid Crystal for my S7e. The only one they have for the G5S Plus is the Rugged Armor . It’s a little beefier black rubber case with a couple fake carbon fiber inserts on the back.
And if you want even beefier there’s a 2-layer Tudia Slim-Fit Merge that comes in a few colors.
