I need to go see live jazz performances more often, but Charlotte is not exactly known for jazz like New Orleans! Great stuff in a nice not booze soaked venue tonight.

To be fair to those not-nice, booze-soaked venues, a lot of times it seems like they have a more authentic, cooler atmosphere than some of the nicer places. Dunno how Charlotte is but in Indianapolis it seems like all the hole-in-the wall dives are slowly being replaced by copy-pasted hipster brewpubs and as a result, killing off a bunch of the area’s character.

Point made. This place managed to be authentic and comfortable because it wasn’t in a spot that tourists congregate, I think.
Charlotte has lost several great, grungy (booze soaked) music venues in recent years to make way for shiny apartment complexes, but they rarely if ever hosted jazz performances. One has to find scheduled performances at restaurants, can’t be as spontaneous as it was tonight.
