I’ll keep this short and sweet.
The mayor of San Juan let out an empassioned speech last night criticizing the government response for aid. This morning Trump took to twitter in response.
“The Mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump. Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help. They…. want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort. 10,000 Federal workers now on Island doing a fantastic job. The military and first responders, despite no electric, roads, phones etc., have done an amazing job. Puerto Rico was totally destroyed.”
Three words: fuck you Trump.
Yes, we have boots on the ground. Yes, our people are working hard. This Mayors town is decimated and people are dying. If you had to tweet, it should have been this in response: “We will do more. Let’s talk.”
After receiving praise for the response in TX and FL, in 3 tweets you destroyed anything positive. People are dying. Shut the fuck up and get to work.

and there are thousands in PR without power, proper drinking water supply, scarce food, no homes. The guy has zero clue.

Nobody in New Jersey is remotely surprised by this tweet. Trump looks out for Trump, period. The guy is a con-man who has taken his base for a long ride.
Yes he’s a business man, but he’s the type of business man who builds a hotel, finishes it and then declares bankruptcy to stiff his investors and contractors so he can laugh all the way to the bank. He is everything that is wrong with Wall Street, and for whatever reason nobody noticed that.

To be fair, it is a Saturday, it’s typically a non-business day, so to speak. But the optics (not to mention the sheer inhumanity or lack of empathy) of sending an aggressive tweet to the mayor of a disaster-ravaged city (that is a protectorate of the nation you govern) from your private golf course is, well, not good.
Nor are the optics of charity organizations chartering private planes to send NYC first responders to PR, while a government cabinet member just resigned after it came out he’d spent nearly a half million USD on charter flights in the past six months or so.

Honestly I don’t see why they are saying that response is poor. There are 10,000 people there to help! That’s a lot. A quick google search shows that in 2012 (which yes, that’s 5 years ago I’m sure FEMA has grown since then) FEMA employed 9,106 people. Even accounting forth growth (I’m just speculating here, since 2012 numbers are the newest numbers I could find) even if FEMA has doubled in the last five years, 10,000 would be equivalent to half of the entire countries disaster assistance personnel.
The linked CNN article is claiming that one of the main issues is people not having internet, so they can’t register for assistance online. So right, there is a contingency that wasn’t planned for, but the thing is the FEMA plan is built around being able to respond to disaster all across the US not having internet in an area is not as much a problem on the continental us because refugees just leave the area. Puerto Rico is an island with nowhere for people to go.
The article also makes reference to privately owned goods and supplies which would help in this disaster. Those supplies are stuck in port because there aren’t enough truck drivers working to run supplies. The government can’t get the supplies distributed because they are private supplies, and people aren’t selling to the giver for distribution. I’m not sure what people expect from a disaster, it’s bad that’s why they call it a disaster. Basically everything that is going on is because of institutional problems in FEMA and Puerto Rico which we are having a hard time working around. That’s not poor response that’s “trying to adapt to a new situation”. In closing, I realize the crux of this is the comments by POTUS on twitter. I have always, and will continue to say I do disagree with the announcement of policy twitter.

It’s one thing if nothing gets done. What makes it worse is all the profound promises and illusions he fabricates. So incredibly false to those against him and the absolute best in a cult like manor to those on his side. Drumpf, the excellent and successful salesman. He can sell anything.... ANYTHING. Per standard corporation views, compassion, common sense, humanitarian views and as we now see, even death can take a back seat to selling their political progress to the country. The classic ingredients of fear and demoralization are the supply and demand of Drumpf’s Republican party.
One thing everyone can agree with, his name = separation at the most critical levels in history.
My family being called a wetbacks, spics and beaners a million percent more since he took office is getting old quick.
