The new Accord isn’t a hot mess. It’s almost attractive, still not pretty. But at least it’s not a totally mess like most recent Hondas, and Toyotas, it really any new Japanese car, aside from Mazdas.
This red really helps. And this angle hides that weird hood panel gap.

Nah, both it, the new Camry, and the Maxima are all just a complete mess. The Mazda 6 is the only one of the Japanese mid sizers that has good styling. Hell, the Kia Optima looks way better than any of them too.

That gaping black lower grille doesn’t do it any favors. Actually, I don’t know that it really looks good on anything, will be happy when that fad ends.
With EU pedestrian regs the way they are, the last thing we should be doing is finding ways to make front ends appear even taller and narrower.

The front is just okay, but from there back, I think it’s one of the best-looking sedans on the market. Clean, restrained, and though I’m aware of the decrease in functionality, I am fully on board with the fastback-all-the-things movement. Also, two-tone wheels look cool and it needs some. Fight me.

I was just about to add that I figured out why I like it so much. Not only is it the great fastback roofline, but also a level belt line, infact the belt line drops at the rear of the car. No aggressively racked swept up beltline to be found. And yet it still looks very aggressive and strong.

This is true. Honda’s AWD system is useless. I’ve seen a CRV get stuck up a sLight hill and it had good all seasons.

The new Honda trademark of the flared chrome trim piece on the rear quarter window makes me twitch somehow. It irks me on the Civic, too. I like how the sides are relatively smooth, anyway.

The grill area is a failure IMO, mostly the forehead. Here’s how it could look if they de-chromed it and evened things out a bit so it looks unified. Without photographic trickery, it looks like 2 or 3 teams with different goals designed the front of the car.

Yeah the front is very blunt. Looks like they tried to make it look like the end of a sledgehammer. But every one wants BOLD exciting new cars and I guess some one at Honda thought a big flat nose is the best way to make a vehicle look strong. You know like this.

I actually don’t mind it too much. It’s not pretty but I’m gonna test out the 2.0T/6MT in short order. I’m still leaning towards a WRX but the Accord is definitely the more grown up option.

I’m on board with this thing, I like everything about it. I imagine the front end will be tweaked as people complain about it in a few years. But I like the bold approach of the design and not go middle of the road compromise...bold because sedan sales are down across the board to SUV’s so playing it safe is what I expected. I’ll consider one in a few years.
