I was making a right onto a road that had just gotten the green and I guess the officer thought I was being a little too aggressive and going too fast.
Basically as soon as I turned onto the road and I saw the blue lights I was like fuck. So I pulled over, he came up to my window and was like do you have a legal reason you were driving that fast. He then asked to see my license, looked at it for a minute, handed it back to me and was like you need to stop driving so aggressively or you’re going to have an accident. Luckily, I didn’t get a ticket. All I could think was shit my insurance rates are going to go up. Not the best way to start my day, but not the worst way either.

Nope, I was in the 328i, which was probably lucky because the M3 has a radar detector and the 3 doesn’t. There would have been a much higher chance of a ticket if I was in the M3.

I got pulled over for the first time ever in over 10 years of driving on the day of the eclipse. Driving home on a 4 lane highway middle of afternoon. Light traffic. Didn’t notice the speed limit on this interstate had dropped. Truck beside me was going same speed as me, but they clocked me. 75 in a 60. Got a ticket, and paid it. Luckily insurance won’t be effected. He of course used the “Safety” argument on me, saying “We aren’t trying to make money, just keeping people safe” yes because I was being so unsafe driving interstate speeds on the interstate....

Didn’t squeal the tires and didn’t exceed the speed limit. He might have gotten me with something else, but who knows.

Hmm - doubt you could’ve wound up with anything in that case. Squealing tires usually results in “exhibition of power” and speeding is speeding. He probably just saw you take off a little rapidly and wanted to make sure you weren’t in the system (warrant, expired reg/tag/inspection, no license, etc).

If squealing tires are a factor, then everyone making the turn in our parking garage is guilty of exhibiting too much power! They painted the floor with something that makes everybody’s tires squeal even if they are moving at a walking pace. :)

I guess the cops in Phoenix don’t care, because I’ve been squealing my tires and turning aggressively for quite a while now. If I don’t make my traction control system freak out at least once per commute then it’s not really a good commute.

I had a friend from Pennsylvania who said one time he got a ticket for “Wasting finite resources” for accelerating aggressively w/o squealing tires or speeding.

Unless the back end broke loose, were smoking the tires or were tailgating someone around the turn, I would disagree that it would meet the definition of driving too aggressively.
I would say this is an example of over-policing.

I may have passed an officer today at 20 over this afternoon, that said, I had just overtaken someone that maintained 10 under, and then would floor it both times I tried to pass. The first attempt, they were doing 30 in a 45, so I made the mistake of just leaving it in 5th from 30. I was passing them just fine, then they floored it, I rolled on a bit more, but then a truck appeared. When I tried to slow down to get back over, they braked. When I tried to go around they accelerated. A don’t give a fuck about fullsize beater truck is in my future, so are dual dashcams.

I make sure I downshift to pass, unless it’s on a highway and we’re doing about 75, basically for that reason. If you try to accelerate I’m probably back in third and will more than likely out accelerate you. Those are also the type of people I’ll pass on a double yellow if it’s clear.
