Kinja'd!!!

Why didn’t they paint the whole car with flames, or snakeskin pattern? It looks so odd. But 58k for a race prepped Viper seems like a good deal, no?

They may not be quite as good a deal as it seems, and I suspect they will eventually sell for a lot less. The windshield banner dates them as 99/00 ish World Challenge cars, which even if they were new at the time would make them too old to play in PWC today by the seven year rule (not to mention that many of the still eligible GT/GTS built cars are becoming noncompetitive against the newer FIA GT3/GT4 spec cars).

Old WC cars tend to be a weird thing to play with. Once they are too old for WC, they often don’t have a good class to play in competitively in club racing. They tend to not be competitive in the GT classes nationally, although they do have something of a home in the SPO class, but the competitiveness of any given car is not guaranteed.

They were also big boy, professional level race cars, which means that even at the club racing level they will still require big boy, professional levels of upkeep and maintenance. Just keeping brakes, rubber and other consumables on a fendered racecar that heavy and with that much horsepower could easily cost a couple of thousand dollars per weekend. They are really cool, though. In the end, they tend to be a particularly expensive way to play racecar. You could by into any number of formula car or sportsracer classes where you go faster around the track, have more folks to play with and spend less money doing so.
