It’s a new day for Hyundai. Im still 90% certain that there is a RWD Hyundai-branded sportscar on the way that will hit the market by the end of this decade. It should preview the new design direction for Hyundai and be the halo of the N Performance Brand. We shall see though.

Whatever sports car is coming will either go to Kia or Genesis. Im loving what Hyundai/Kia/Genesis has been doing latley though. We should see how serious N is soon enough when the next gen Veloster comes. Thats the first car thats getting the N treatment.

Right, basically a successor to the Coupe. I’m expecting to see an update to the Venace.

I think the sportscar that was originally going to be branded a Genesis was switched to Hyundai once they decided that Genesis would be a completely separate brand from Hyundai. So you have a Chrysler to Alfa Romeo type of situation rather than a Toyota to Lexus when it comes to Hyundai and Genesis. Kia to Hyundai is like Mitsubishi to Nissan.

Since Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia are all separate brands they have to view each other as rivals. With Kia having the Stinger in the $35,000 to $50,000 range and Genesis having the G70 in the $35,000 to $50,000 range you end up with Hyundai needing an answer to that same market in order to keep up against its two biggest “competitors.”

Ive always thought that the idea for the Genesis brand itself was sort of a last minute thing. And thats what it seems like. I think that they have to do a follow up to the Genesis Coupe though but its only going to be with the Genesis brand. Maybe a G70 coupe? A sports car wouldnt fit in with their current strategy: Hyundai cheap affordable, efficient mid level cars, Kia sporty mid level and luxury, Genesis luxury. As it is, more than anything Kia plays Dodge to Hyundai. But Hyundai is playing the Genesis is Lexus game. Thats literally what they were shooting for.

I dont think they view each other as rivals though. I mean they could but I dont think so. But like I said, I dont think we will be seeing anything along the lines of a follow up to the Genesis coupe, at least from Hyundai. The Stinger and G80 Sport are already close sharing not only the 3.3 TT but sharing a platform as well (shared with the K900 and Equus). A sports car from Hyundai would be the odd man out in the lineup.

Not gonna lie, if they brought this here, I would trade for it, if it’s as good as they say.

I owned a 2011 Hyundai Elantra Touring (i30sw) before i bought my FieSTa, and I looked long and hard at the Velosyer turbo and Elantra GT before I decided on the FIST... If Hyundai had this in the lineup for the US, I’d take one. The ET was a great car, and of this takes what Hyundai can do so well (reliable, comfortable, easy to live with cars that are smartly engineered) and turns it up to 11, then I’m sold.

The only issue is, I feel, that they know too well that American’s are soft. I’ve driven the Elantra Sport, and the steering was like that of truck from 25 years ago, as it was unresponsive, feel-less, and vague. Until the N apparently, they haven’t figured out how to adjust EPS.

that was exactly what kept me away from the Veloster Turbo and EGT... And I’ll admit that the EPS on my ET was pretty... Dull... But the chassis, transmission and engine were so great for a “cheap” car that I was willing to forgive... With just tires and strut braces I made many a WRX bro very angry at AX with my ET. It really deserved better in the steering department.

That was pretty much my thought on the Elantra Sport. I thought the interior bits, while looking a bit nicer, were just as flimsy as the FiST though. And my Mom’s $40k Azera suffers from the quality/material issue too, as it has more squeaks and rattles.
