If something similar to the Sport Turismo had been released in 2000, just think about how many enthusiasts would have lost their shit over Porsche losing their way. Now, since we’ve gotten past all that with years of the Cayenne, first gen Panamera, and Macan, almost everyone (including me) is like “OMG IT’S BEAUTIFUL GIVE IT TO ME!!!”. Makes you wonder, was this their plan all along?

It’s much better looking, but I still don’t really like it.

I’ve yet to see one of these newer Panameras irl, but that colour is 100% GIB.

I 100% believe that Porsche builds the best car they possibly can then nerfs the crap out of it upon introduction and gradually builds back towards that perfect version of the car (but nerfing it enough that the introduction of the next gen car can surpass it) over every trim level and model year.

Think about the fact that Porsche already had this new generation Panamera’s design going by the time they revealed the first gen. Think about how we already saw the 992 being tested (not just mules, but full-fledge prototypes) by the time the 991.2 was revealed.

Porsche is so planned out that they know exactly what size the 2027 Macan GTS steering wheel should be to accommodate autonomous drivers wanting to cross their legs while in the driver seat AND still be engaging to use when they do make it to a backroad.

I hated the look of the first gen in pics, but didn’t mind it as much when seen in person.

The new one looks exceedingly sharp in pics, so it is probably drop dead gorgeous in person. If I were rich and wanted a wagon, I’d go for it.

Depreciation should be brutal on these (assuming they sell enough). I’m willing to be patient!

It’s not as stunningly beautiful as the concept (but they never are).

I was looking at Cayennes. Out of warranty Cayennes. Ended up on rennlist, in the “what services has your car needed” thread. One guy in particular posted, and it stood out because in 4 years of ownership it cost him nearly 15 grand in repairs.

Started thinking about it, and pricing out various parts and labor. A grand here, two grand there, fifteen hundred somewhere else. What would cost $150 on my e38 to repair would be $1600 on the Porsche, and it seemed like a diyers nightmare to work on.

I still have the framed poster of the 959, and framed poster of the 930 Cabriolet that were on my bedroom walls when I was a kid. They’re now hanging on the walls of my sons room. When everyone was gaga over the Countach and Testarossa I barely gave them a second glance. My dad had an ‘87 930 Turbo. I loved that car. I was a Porsche guy through and through and would still love to own one. I do ok, but I just don’t have it like that and probably never really will, so the Porsche will likely remain a dream car. Damn 911 prices. 200 grand should buy a nice house, or a fleet of cars... not a single depreciating asset.

I feel old and poor now. Haha.

Get off my lawn.

I was a hardcore air cooled 911 Turbo purist, until the Cayman was released. I’m talking “mass produced” Porsches not the rare models (959, 918, etc.). The other models do nothing for me, and I think they are making the base 911 Turbo too soft just so they can make an S version. They then make the S version too soft so they can sell the R version. You shouldn’t need letters after Turbo to get a car that actively tries to kill you. Go look at a new Turbo cabriolet to see what I’m talking about.

I too looked at used Cayennes. I bought a second-hand GTI instead.

I honestly think the Sport Turismo is pretty close to the perfect silhouette for a 4 door Porsche. The above is trying to be a 911, and is... not.

Don’t let it be just a dream. Get a 987 Cayman S once the kids are driving themselves.
