Does this exist? (suction cup version)

So, I’m a no-case kind of guy [knocks wood]. I had slapped one of these metal stickers on my 4 year old 5s and really liked using it with the magnet mount in my car. However, I’d really rather not stick anything to my shiny new 8 (and still don’t want a case). Do they make one of these car vent things with a suction cup instead of a magnet? I’ve been searching Amazon, but all I’m getting are the mounts with a suction cup for the windshield...

I don’t know of such a device. However, this in no way helps your delima, but I have a stick on wallet on the back of my 7 plus that I slipped the metal plate into. I can throw a credit card back there and it looks like it belongs more than the metal plate. I know I didn’t help, just offering some worthless ideas.

no

Kinja'd!!!

but also, yes!

the ram mount (pictured above) can have replacement suction thingies, and that centre part will hold the ball of the suction portion on both ends. Therefore, with a little ebaying for parts, you could likely cobble a ram mount with the windshield suction cup on both ends

I don’t know of any that use a suction cup, but there are definitely ones that just grab on to the sides of your phone.

I have this one ...

Kinja'd!!!

But it’s not the greatest because instead of the 4-prong claw thingie pictured above that sticks into all sorts of vents, it’s got a bigger thing that only works on certain vents.

Kinja'd!!!

I only use it in rental cars because my car has a handy spot to put my phone in front of the shifter. But it sometimes doesn’t work in all rental car vents.

If I were to do it again, I’d look at either this one with a 3-prong (2 little + 1 big) claw:

Or this one with a 4-prong claw:

Prong is such a fun word.

Hmm... a possibility, but I think I would rather have the vent mount. Rigging one myself may be the only way, though.

Why not stick it to your clear case on the inside?

No case! =)

But seriously, I may just pick up a cheap case just for use with this mount in the car...

so in the winter do you just close that vent when your phones up their? i cant imagine blowing hot air on the back of your phone could be very productive

Most of the winter I’m driving my own car which I don’t use this thing in. There’s a little cubby in front of my shifter where I put my phone.

But most of the time in the winter I run the heat through the floor and/or defrost vents, not blowing right at me through the dash vents.

I had one of these holders and honestly I really didn’t care for it. At least in my Civic it blocked the entire vent. In this car the HVAC needs all the help it can get, so for me it’s a no go.

Worked well in my car, and kept my phone nice and cool, too!

I don’t think a suction cup would work very well, as in the phone would probably be falling off all the time. Why not just use a traditional phone mount?

Edit: or get a case.. Maybe you’re more responsible than me but going caseless has never worked out well for me while even with just a very minimal low profile case I have no problems.

I’m pretty good with my stuff (8 years running w no incidents). I may actually get a cheap case just for using this magnet mount in the car...

Just get one of those $20 (well for android phones at least) clear soft touch plastic cases stick the metal shim on the inside, cover metal shim with painters tape, and profit. :)

October 4 is so far away.....I’m ready to ditch my V20 and the pick is going to be between the V30 and the next Pixel device

I’m pretty good with my stuff as a whole too but twice I was like ‘yeah lets go caseless, you’ve never broken a phone’(and the second time ‘you’ve only cracked one phone’). Both times dropped it and cracked it(and both times was drunk when the phone was dropped and cracked, because of course). Still totally useable both times, the more recent one on my 6S completely missed the part of the glass that’s actually the screen but still annoying.

SAme, that last one was too generic and cheap feeling for me. But of course now I am hating my LG V20, stupid second screen

I just picked up an iPhone 8 - pretty sweet coming from my 4 year old 5s. I’m not opposed to Android, but I’m pretty deep in the Apple ecosystem at this point (and my kids use FaceTime to talk to their grandparents and cousins).

I am an OG Android/Google ecosystem user and I can’t go back to only being able to do one task at a time on my phone.

Haha - I’ve been a Mac user for 17 years and iOS for 8, but I lean heavy on Google services (Gmail, Gcal, Google Photos + Dropbox). If I wasn’t already so deeply invested with Apple (along with my wife, siblings & parents), I could see myself making the switch. Inertia is a bitch.

I don’t think one exists. But, you could always just get a suction cup and glue it to the magnetic mount.
