Kinja'd!!!

For the second part of my European Adventure with Europponaut Jobjoris, we went to a car show at Classic Park, an auto museum/classic car dealer over there in The Netherlands. For the drive over we went in Jobjoris’s sweet 911 as seen here:

Kinja'd!!!

Look at those handsome devils. And the car rides and drives as good as it looks. Anyway, the show was somewhat focused on Dutch cars (note the DAF 600 t-shirt - me, the American, was the only one wearing DAF gear - sad) which meant the coolest little trucks ever were there, but there was a little bit of everything. First, though, the museum/dealership which is pretty stunning.

Fun oddities.

Caught my eye:

Auburn kit cars with German H plates

The 2 door Passat next to the 2002, has to be down near sole survivor status

R107 on whitewalls, very USA 1970s style

Adenauer cabrio needs wider whitewalls

I wonder how much malaisey metal like the Fury has ended up in Yourup.
Between Dutchieland and Absurdistan Sweden/Norway (and Germany too), quite a bit. I suppose cool for cheap is a selling point.

You must’ve had a great trip. How long did you stay?

The background of this picture caught my eye. This must be the visitor parking lot. The non-German ones are oddities in their own right. L->R Peugeot 505, Mitsubishi Starion, Mercedes S-class W126, Renault 16, BMW 5-series E34, Saab 900 5-door, riced mk1 Golf convertible and some other Germans. Right? I’d like that 505.

Awesome Dafs (and other cars), not enough 55 Coupes though. Also cool to see the 480 next to the Dafs, as it is a true Dutch design. (By the way, I like your shirt, I need to get one too)

I think the brown mk1 Fiesta used to be in another Dutch museum (Autotron) that has been closed around 10-ish years ago. I can hardly imagine a lot of other brown mk1 Fiestas to be this mint.

In Dutch news, my mother used to have a Volvo (née DAF) 66 estate just like this:

The really surprising thing is how a Fiat 127 managed to survive more or less intact in a damp climate.

Real talk, I love the way the hood dips between the headlights on the early DAF cars (the 600 and Daffodil/750).

Yeah, we had an amazing time. I was only in Holland for 3 days, but it was a packed full 3 days thanks to Joep.

That was the interesting cars visitor’s lot. There was a really good mix. There was also an old Celica and an MR2. Cars from everywhere. I didn’t get to photograph them all.

Yeah, we spotted a bunch of malaisy cars. There was a nice, old Cutlass parked in town the whole weekend that we kept passing.

That Fiat is covered in janky rust patches which you can sort of see in the picture.

No Spykers, no. But, they don’t sell a lot of Spykers, so not too surprising. We saw some original Spykers at the Louwman, though.

Something I remember about NL is that a number of Lincoln Mark V and same era Caddys have ended up there. Surprising, but maybe not so much given their cheap price to style relationship.

How did you like the car landscape in the Netherlands? Not at that museum, in general. Quite different from the US, right?

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
09/28/2017 at 17:50, STARS: 1

Yeah, you do see a lot of those in Europe. They’re inexpensive and instantly recognizable as an American land yacht.

It seems like there’s a pretty healthy car culture there. We saw a lot of classic cars driving around. I wouldn’t say the people were all that different than in America. Car enthusiasts are car enthusiasts. There are certain types that you don’t get there and vice versa, but I recognized folks as car guys. The cars themselves are definitely quite different for the most part.

It wasn’t the real visitor’s parking actually. Classic park has 3 zones for the cars: Center court (where we ended up with the Porker, probably as I’m there often) where the real cool stuff gets, the zone nearest to the A2 (left from the building when you’re looking at the terrace/entrance) where the kinda youngtimers ended up and the the grassy field you pass when driving up the property. That’s the “visitor” parking.

I’d get the Starion btw from the list of cars you mention. Maybe that W126. Wait. There’s a 968 on that picture as well!

So many good stuff here... The 6C probably the winner here.

I can confirm the red Jag to be painted by brush. The guy is a bit odd. He always felt “racecars need to be red”. So when he got a solid body XK he was running through his budget. The car wasn’t red though. So he painted it. The car isn’t garaged by the way, it sits in his living room. His wife objected when he started doing this. After a while he was confronted by her “The car out or I am out!”. His only reply was “close the door softly”. So the urban legend goes. (he was featured in a magazine, I’ll see if I can find it anywhere)

Yeah, that Alfa was something. That, the Bianchina, and the DB were the winners inside. Nothing beats a Pony, though.

That’s hilarious. I don’t know if I’m glad, or disappointed that I didn’t talk to that guy. He sounds like a nut. I guess if you don’t want to wait until you save the money for a proper paint job, you do what you have to. I’d love to see that article.

I got the shirt from this guy who has some neat stuff:

That was definitely the nicest Mk1 Fiesta I’ve ever seen, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a museum car. The color is awesome.

The magazine was in the back. It’s the guy avec le Moustache tres énorme so I can imagine you’d want to avoid speaking to ‘m.

Maybe in real life a jaguar can beat a pony, but not in the world of cars.

Haha. I wonder what came first, the car or the ‘stache?

What about the coat? Is he related to Robin Hood?

Kinja'd!!! "Jobjoris" (Jobjoris)

I think he feels he’s related to the Prince of Thieves. He has to be a member of the English nobility of some sort. Maybe even Irish.
